Great post, I wholeheartedly agree and not just because I also am a Kiwi.
For years we were fed a diet of ‘Land of the Free’ bollocks and the whole time we were being told the U.S is a bastion of freedom saving the world, they were spying on us. You know – the Coalition Of The Willing? The rest of the Allies? The people standing shoulder to shoulder with American troops in every major conflict over the last hundred years?
It was ‘The Lives Of Others’ on a global scale.
What a gyp.
The sooner America falls into irrelevancy, the better off the rest of the world will be.
…wait, you make that sound like it’s a bad thing?
I kid.
I loved the movie up until The Scene (not the Carol one). Then I just lost interest entirely, but didn’t leave. Frankly, I thought Abrams was better than that.
Still, I wouldn’t say the last 7 odd minutes ruined the rest of the movie, but they did make me less likely to wholeheartedly recommend it to others.
