I haven’t had any real complaints with iTunes once I had 4GB of RAM in my system.

Left, genie, scaled down a bit, hidden. Vertical space is at a premium on my laptop.

Build a Windows box and use it for just gaming. You’ll be better off.

You can. iMessage with SMS fallback. Does your plan not include SMS?

Ok.

You’re entitled to your own opinions and all, but none of your analysis has any basis in reality. iOS is not Android, it doesn’t flexibly scale (and for good cause, there’s a reason the best looking apps are on iOS).

I hear you say that, but then I see constant (maybe not from you, not trying to point fingers here) whining that Apple needs to make a bigger phone because that’s what everyone wants. When that’s simply not the case.

The fall lineup for Apple is really heavy right now. I can’t imagine they’re alright with ceding mind share for the entire spring/summer for another year. But who know’s what Apple has roadmapped.

If the Xbox is handling the guide, and then just tell the DTV box what to turn to, it’ll be an unimaginable improvement.

Just some acknowledgement that you got my input. As long as I know it’s working on it, I’m ok waiting a bit.

Hell, the “main” TV would become the kids room and the Xbox in the living room.

Longer to find the remote, and scan it for which of the hundred buttons it is. Cable box remotes are abominations.

Are people leaving cable going to OTA though? Aren’t they moving to a Netflix/Hulu/pirate setup? I know I am, and between those and my parents HBOGo account, I don’t have time to consume anything more on the tv.

I get you, the chin and forehead are silly looking on the 5. I’d prefer them shrunk a bit, but having the physical home button is a huge deal for a lot of users. I’d really like to see some touch integration, along with maybe that fingerprint reader.

Here’s the thing: the 5" S4 doesn’t show but a small bit more information than my 4" iPhone 5. It’s true, go look at them. Android’s scaling lets things be bigger, but you don’t get too much more. Once you move into the 7" range, then it’s a different story. You see it when you go from a blown-up phone app on an Android tablet to one using Fragments and designed for the larger canvas. Different layout, information presented differently. Carrying around a larger phone offers me less benefits to the size (information density) compared to the drawbacks (harder to manipulate securely one handed), not to mention the feel of it in my pocket (I go naked with my 5 and the smaller frame is hugely noticeable [or should I say, less noticeable]). Of course people have different use cases, but I feel that Apple makes the tradeoff the right direction. Just like I agree with other decisions they make, like the camera stack and internal NAND and aggressive battery life management. Apple can’t be everything to everybody, but I do think they’re the better option for the majority of prospective users.

They’d have to offer a second device. No way they drop the reasonably sized one in favor of a larger one. Certainly possible to introduce a 4.95" device using the iPhone 5 resolution cut from an iPad 4 panel. I just don’t know when would be right to bring it to market. Next spring perhaps? We’d have seen parts leaks by now if there was anything coming this fall.

There’s just far far fewer of you. For no one but Apple to offer any flagship caliber device in the < 4.5" range is just absurd.

You’re missing the problem where your large hands mitigate the “just too big” by a large degree, especially on a borderline device like the N4. If you carried a Note around for a few weeks, you’d get a feel for what it’s like. The 3.5" iPhone was (is) tiny. It’s serviceable, but tiny. The 4" iPhone is low-medium, 4.3" medium, and 4.5" (with reasonable bezels) high medium (to my scale). Anything past that is simply too large to comfortably hold and manipulate for the majority of the population. There will always be outliers in physical characteristics, and of course that’s to say nothing of taste and preference to trade one handed operation for a larger panel, but everyone is missing this sweet spot for size. I can guarantee you there would be substantial sales of an S4 varient in a 4.3" frame with a 720p panel and flagship guts. Everything except the iPhone in that size range is just mid-range device.

What kind of performance do you expect from a case that size?

So you’d say that you’re way on the upper end of users, and that your experience doesn’t relate to most people who are buying phones?

Or you’re holding it floating across your fingers. I hold my phone, with it resting on my pinky, 2 fingers wrapped around the left side, index on the back, and thumb free. I could go on a rollercoaster with my phone and keep holding it. I can let a larger phone rest on my fingers and reach across, but I’m not holding it I’m just cradling it.

Once upon a time I tried to set up library sharing between my Xbox-the-first and my media machine. Tried for nearly an hour, wouldn’t work, gave it up. Bought an AppleTV a year or so ago (whenever the gen3 dropped). Set up wifi, logged into my iTunes account… and that was it. Seamless streaming from my laptop, phone, tablet, and Windows media computer (from iTunes, which is where all my media is right now).
Sure, there were other solutions before and there will be more in the future. But no one nails the user experience side like Apple. That matters.

Would you ever want to go onto the internet during a video call maybe? Or see fantasy football scores during the game? I don’t think I’d use it that much, as I have other devices, but it’s not a horrible idea.

But you have to make the trade-off of having a phone that you can’t use as one handed all the time for functions that are better on a bigger panel some of the time. And don’t forget about, you know, women. 51% of the world population, tend to be smaller?

I’m of just over average male height, and have hands that are slightly larger than typical for my height (so I have hands bigger than most males, and nearly every female (remember those, 51% of the world population, tend to be a bit smaller?)). Anything past 4.3 (that I’ve held) requires me to shuffle the phone up and down in my hand to articulate my thumb across it. I don’t know how else to present it :/.

Worse than that; it might be 1% if I’m generous. But it’s still a phone sized device, and I and I can use it as such. If I want a bigger panel, I’ll grab my iPad. I don’t want the two to converge. There’s a good and clear reason to keep them different.

I’ll end up with one. My 360 is dying, and I’m not old enough to completely drop video games. I like playing COD with my little brother too.
