You can for example change the Fonts for applications (except for some Apple apps and the menu bar), disable Resume for certain apps, change the look of the Dock (disable the glass, align it differently on the bottom of the screen) and a lot of small tweaks (like showing hidden files or folders in Finder) throughout OS X without using Terminal commands.

Microsoft even shipped with Windows 7 Windows Media Center basically a cable box that just wants to be connected.
I use my old Windows PC with a DVB-T tuner for live TV and as a DVR, the UI is quite good with Media Center and the picture and audio quality is way higher than with a normal DVB-T box.
And you can basically get every other content source you want with a browser
so I think a Windows PC has the most content, but can also be quite hard to use with just a remote. -

The apps itself look good, but the Homescreen with it’s icons and the wallpaper that Apple uses there look just ugly.

The new iOS look is amazing, maybe a bit heavy on translucency and blur but WAY better than before.
