“Designer”

So you think this tiny fool-proof “Open with” menu is still too complicated to be integrated into iOS? Well, if that’s the case, they can’t change many things without confusing the users too much.

This. At some point, there would have been nice, powerful and fast touch UIs even without Apple and iOS. The question is when.
If Google really was working on touchscreen devices before the iPhone launch, we would probably be like half a year behind. But it could also be true that the era was just starting about now, and we would be thrilled about pinch to zoom or scrolling by dragging and stuff.
But even though I don’t use any iOS device, I appreciate what they have done to the market and are still doing. After all, if they just wouldn’t have built iOS and Android was like it is now, they would be the monopole of phones with 90+ % share. But then, they wouldn’t have any reason to innovate and they probably would just sit there and sell the same phone every year again.

What are the other two comments about? Wearable tech? I don’t see any connection to the OP’s post. But to get to the point, I actually thought about this a while ago, as I saw a post of a chinese manufacturer (I think it was xiaomi) who was developing a feature where the whole action bar gets moved to the bottom, so you’ll never have to reach the very top of the screen.
I suppose this feature could be reproduced without many problems using a custom ROM or even better – an Xposed module (I don’t know much about ROM/mod developong though, feel free to correct). I would totally use this, since it is just so much more comfortable, even on my 4.3" screen (and even more so on 5" and bigger and small tablets).

I am sure that for the people who are justifying the lack of feature xy, it is true! Why would anybody say “I don’t mind audio and screen calibration and LTE” without it actually being true?

I wouldn’t like it. Considering how awkward an iPad mini feels to me. I like the big bezels, without them you couldn’t hold it without it thinking you want to do some stuff with your finger on the screen.

It definitely isn’t Google’s fault, but it shows that carrier-nexii are still not 100% Android and that not even all the Nexus devices get the updates the first day.
BTW when I get a chance to speak to the “grand lord of PA”: I saw you stating somewhere that it annoys you that buggy “any ROM” flashable zips and apps try to resemble the true Halo (and Pie, and Hybrid Properties.) I don’t think there is any reason to hate those people. If there is no PA port for a phone, then people might like the stuff being developed on XDA. If there is one; why should one care?
It’s like that every time: If someone comes up with a great idea, it’s just a matter of time until others start developing essentially the same thing with more or less modifications (which turn it better or worse). But at some point, there often appears a product that has certain advantages over the original one, and that’s what keeps the whole thing going.

The N4 is the way to go. I ain’t got one, but used a friend’s one and I gotta say it is very damn fast. I also don’t think the screen is bad or not well enough calibrated or anything. PLUS the N4 gets the most custom ROMs. For example, the latest PA builds are N4-only (well, the oppo5 also. Actually a good choice too. S4 Pro, 1080p screen and extreme build quality. And its kernel is open source, which means you’ll get bug free AOSP ROMs, just like PA. So this is nearly a nexus too) But I wouldn’t get an One or S4 since you’ll always have to wait some weeks/months for the latest updates (as in a stable ROM).
Probably there will be a new N4 at I/O or this mysterious X phone, so if you feel like waiting a bit to get the latest… do so.
