Hm… I’m kind of wondering why Vlad gave the Reception / Call Quality a 9, when he nothing but great things to say about it.

Thank you for writing what I’ve been feeling!
I tried the Windows 8 preview and I quickly deleted it. I’ve been using Windows for a long time (have also used Mac OS and iOS at various times) and I think the new direction is kind of… well, it’s like the Office Ribbon UI.
Back with Ribbon, I feared that programs were going to end up like McDonald’s POS machines. Pictures of food items and condiments. Now, on a limited mobile interface, this is good. On a full fledged desktop environment, this is a disaster.
Change is inevitable and good, but going backwards is not. Change needs to evolve forwards. Sure, we can change back to the Dark Ages but that wouldn’t necessarily be a good thing for society. We can always take what worked in the past, improve what didn’t work in the past (or eliminate it altogether), and improve what works now. That’s how change, or rather, progression / innovation should be.

Morgan asked if he was bothered by the multitudes of ways people might watch his show (aside from tuning in live). Without pause or hesitation, O’Brien emphatically responded, “no, not in the least.”
Hey Piers, do some research. You can watch full episodes the day after they are on TEAMCOCO.COM. HERP DERP.

I’ve totally noticed this sea change in the way he runs his show and you can see the massive evolution when watching now. It’s also really cool because he’s a TV host that’s so much more intimately involved with his audience and I LOVE him for that. I’m a die hard fan now. He’s fostered a relationship with his viewership. In addition, he can do more audience focused comedy bits, which I think are hilarious and I think the fans love it. (examples would be the Audiencey’s, audience craigslist ads, teamcoco.com/hahaifoundanerror, etc etc). He even does a comedy bit where he tries to relate to younger viewers, and it’s him making a vlog in to a macbook. It’s hilarious!
and… my attitude over the last couple years has been ‘adapt or die.’"

As an android user, the only time fragmentation causes an issue for me is when it starts becoming hard even for independent developers to get root and stable ROMs for phones. I see that starting to happen now. I have a Rezound, and we had to get a bounty to buy a phone off swappa for a dev that had no interest in developing on the Rezound (because he didn’t have one and never planned on buying it).
The number of devices and combo of configs feels like it’s starting to outpace the number of devs able to not only create but to maintain AOSP style ROMs.
But it’s still just a minor annoyance. I mean, I have ICS, but there is only one AOSP style ROM for the Rezound right now. There are still parts of Sense because it’s too deeply integrated in to the ROM, we only recently got AOKP in development, and there is no kernel source yet. Dammit, HTC!
But for out of the box experiences, it’s not that big of a deal yet. After all, you are on AT&T. You can buy a Galaxy Nexus. You say you are a dev. I’m fairly confident development on the One X is going to be quite active, so don’t even think about using that “i shouldn’t have to root my phone to get ICS”. I mean, it’d be nice if people didn’t have too, but you’re a dev. Just buy the dev phone.

Well then, you know in the future to avoid Paul’s articles. Especially if he’s off the internet.
Also, this article should not take half an hour to read. It only took me a little bit because 1) I’m at work (oooh, naughty) 2) I took a cigarette break 3) I watched the video.
I understand it’s hyperbole, but it was a bit too hyperbolic, to the point of ridiculousness. I’m guessing Josh had that feeling as well. But if it really did take 30 minutes to read it, maybe the person should brush up on their reading skills. JS.

The thing about iDevices is that you don’t have to toggle wifi, gps, or bluetooth. They’re not doing anything unless you’re using them.
There’s a HUGE (and annoying) misconception in the Android world that you have to turn GPS off to save battery and that’s just false. Unless an OEM has made changes to the way the hardware behaves, the Android OS also does not do anything with GPS unless an app specifically asks for it.
In regards to Wifi and Bluetooth, turning them on in Android results in active scanning and pairing of connected devices. So those would waste a little battery if you have it scanning repeatedly all day for something not present / usable, but it’s very little battery. GPS is pretty much the most hungry power hungry sensor there is, but does not operate without an app accessing it.

I’ve tried Waze in the Silicon Valley and it sucks. JS.
511.org is the best for bay area as it’s a service of the transit system and obviously they have proper live coverage in addition to the historical data that Google uses. There is a usable, independently created 511 app in the Play Store.
