you have to understand that ppl like the abstraction of video games. Most ppl have computers at home, some even have good rigs for playing games but they do prefer to play on the console. It´s not about backwards compatibility, it´s about experience. On consoles, you know every game you buy will run perfectly no matter what, its damn easy just hit play and you are playing in seconds. Not everyone wants to deal with complex hardwares, board upgrades, OS installs, software installs, etc etc. I´m a pc gamer, i have more than 150 games on steam but i do like consoles as well and i undestand the ppl who plays on it. In the end computers tend to be more expensive. To play top AAA games like battlefield 4 with decent framerates you gonna need at least to spend $800 or more on parts. A good CPU today costs about $200-300 and a good gpu $300-400. So only those 2 parts are basically a PS4 with PSeye, additional joystick and a few games.

UI, multitasking, social features, games, kinect and voice controlled commands, apps, cloud processing to improve game experience, TIVO like feature (DVR), integration with win8 and tablets. I agree if u only want a console to play single player games or casual multiplayer, then ps4 is a no brainer, but for a rich online social experience, xbox one is years ahead.
And the list @razormike described can be summarized in only 1 thing. DRM. Which is not a problem if they do what steam has been doing for years. Give ppl discounts. Actually if u dont buy used games thats not even a problem. Also in RL, no one will stay more than 24h without internet. Just share your 3g over wifi and play the game but they might increase this time anyway due to all complaints

well thats true. many of my friends went ps3 because of the blueray. My brother for example has both consoles. He has like 30 games for xbox and only 4 or 5 for the Ps3 which he uses mostly as a media center than a gaming console. Im not saying which is better but here in Brazil, xbox has a marketshare beyond 80%. Ps3 was always 2x more expensive considering our taxes and everything. Xbox was produced localy while ps3 imported. So the people who considered Ps3 were either going for sony exclusives or feel that a blueray would be handy. Years ago a blueray drive was very expensive.

Both the same actually. 77.3M. Considering Ps3 was a few millions behind and now its even. Probably PS3 would surpass next quarter considering no changes from Microsoft. The main problem for microsoft is Japan where Ps3 sells 10 to 1. http://www.vgchartz.com/
The annoucement on E3 can change that trend tho.

actually Xbox Mini. Plays Xbox 360 games + Tv part of Xbox One + New UI for that price. Refresh UI and price is not really a huge announcement.

i dont really think ppl would leave tumblr just because yahoo bought it. didn´t change anything yet and its unlikely to change in the near future. I bet this is just a marketing campaign from wordpress trying to convince anyone yahoo will destroy tumblr. I really doubt 72k/hour sign ups. Probably ppl who has tumblr already has wordpress.
