Without going into specifics, consoles from Japanese companies such as Nintendo and Sony (or basically just consoles that do well on the Japanese market) have a higher number of JRPG exclusives. I guess that’s what he meant. Xbox of course has had its share of exclusive RPGs too, but those are mostly ‘Western RPGs’, like The Witcher 2, the first Mass Effect (until last year) and arguably the Fable series (not sure if I’m allowed to call that an RPG). And for the record: most of those have been released on PC as well.

I think you’re mistaken. This is the actual PAL version of the SNES which is pretty much the same as the original Japanese Super Famicom (i.e. the one that predates every SNES variant). Only North America got the weird boxy grey and purple one.

An ‘epic’ sequel with a no-name director and a very weird casting choice in the form of Eva Green seems like a good recipe for failure to me.
Good to see Lena Headey back though. I like her on TV and I really liked her in Dredd. People should just go and see Dredd if they want to see a dumb (but enjoyable) action movie.

I don’t need a dedicated app developed by Google, but I would certainly prefer it. I usually prefer native apps over web apps, certainly when it’s something I use all day like my music player. Do dedicated play/pause and skip controls on my computer work with web apps?
Anyway, it’s a non-issue for me, because Google Music is not available in my country at all and Spotify is. Also, I own records, including those of Pink Floyd.

Wait what? Spotify isn’t the only way to listen to music? That’s quite an amazing fact.
Too bad Google Music is only available in 13 countries and doesn’t have a dedicated app for any platform but Android.

I prefer Excel for Mac 2011 over Numbers, but both Keynote and Pages are still great apps, especially considering they’re well over four years old now. Office for Mac 2011 is pretty decent (unlike the version that came before), but I hardly ever use Word and I don’t think I ever booted Powerpoint. Pages is the best and easiest DTP app this side of InDesign. It may not be that flexible, but you can create good looking documents in a fraction of the time. I’m really exited about what iWork ’13 might bring.

Just for the record, no superhero movie that I’m aware of ever won an Academy Award for Best Picture, I don’t think they ever received a nomination as well. The last sequel that got ‘Best Picture’ was Return of the King and that was only the second sequel ever to win that Oscar. Four movies in the last ten years had original screenplays versus five in the 1990s.
You’re right about movie blockbusters though. The number of sequels, remakes, adaptions, etc. (basically everything but original screenplays) grew exponentially. The Academy Awards aren’t really a good indication of the state of the industry or what’s actually ‘popular’.

So assuming you’re right (and I don’t have any reason to believe you’re not, just to be clear) the new AirPort design can make a difference and therefore makes sense. That also means it doesn’t necessarily make sense for the Apple TV or Mac Mini because they don’t share that function.

If we’re looking at those H-plane charts (CMIIW, but I thought that’s the one applicable in this case), I don’t see a really significant difference between 90 degrees (horizontal) and 60 degrees (somewhat diagonal). The new AirPort also isn’t really that much higher to make a huge difference I think unless it’s sitting right next to your computer, but feel free to educate me.

I don’t really get the new shape at all. According to the Apple website it has something to do with the antenna being ‘higher’ for a better signal, but how would those few inches make any difference? My old flat TimeCapsule is sitting on the bottom shelf of my bookcase, should I put it a shelf higher for a better signal? Do radio waves even care if they travel diagonal instead of horizontal? Well, maybe it’s because those special Apple radio waves defy physics or something, but otherwise I don’t really understand.
And my money is on ‘no’. It’s just weird.

I never thought the sailing segments of Wind Waker were tedious, it’s all part of the experience and the charm, but to each his own.
Did Nintendo already announce a 3DS XL Zelda Edition bundled with A Link Between Worlds? I didn’t get the 3DS one bundled with OOT 3D because I already had a 3DS when that came out.

“Think about it” means “I don’t have any actual facts, so here’s some conjecture for your entertainment”. Still, the idea that an Apple designer deliberately tried to copy Android’s lockscreen and whatnot is ludicrous as well.

Day one purchases this year are most likely going to be (somewhat in order of anticipation, starting with the most anticipated): Grand Theft Auto V (PS3), The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and probably Saints Row VI (PS3). If I can get a PS4, Infamous: Second Son, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Destiny seem obvious choices.

Pirates will pirate. Official releases make it arguably easier, especially on certain platforms.
Still I wonder how much releasing a few NES/Gameboy classics on iOS and/or Android would hurt sales of their new hardware. I understand that releasing the latest Zelda or Pokémon game on iOS is bad business practice, but people don’t buy a new Nintendo console to buy and play the first Super Mario Bros. for the umpteenth time, but they might on iOS/Android.

Thanks for making another thread ripping on the iOS 7 design without any new angle or insight. I know, the 20 or so threads we already have including 10 on the Android forum isn’t nearly enough. I’m looking forward to the next one.

This is looking so great that I’m actually starting to think this is what Jony Ive had in mind, but Apple got cold feet after they remembered the 1000s of legacy apps with icons based on the rounded square design. Hardly any new icon makes use of the full rounded square canvas and the not so great ones like Safari, Newsstand and Game Center really look much better in this shape.
It’s not that I’m going to switch to another platform anyway because of iOS7, but if Apple had done this, I would have loved the new design even more. A++

Sorry but why wouldn’t he be interested in iOS 7? Did iOS 7 eat his babies? The last time I checked it was the next major release of one of the most important mobile operating systems. If anything, he should check out what his competitors are doing. Also, intelligent grown-up people like Sundar Pichai don’t ‘hate on’ other platforms just because it’s not the one they usually use.

I don’t want an ‘innovative’ gaming console, I want one that runs the next generation of games that may or may not be innovative.
The most innovative console this generation arguably was the Nintendo Wii and tough I thoroughly enjoyed quite a few Wii games, the games in which this ‘innovation’ really enhanced the gameplay instead of replacing traditional button presses with ‘waggles’ were few and far between. Even worse are the ‘party games’ in which controlling the game is the actual challenge. Microsoft and especially Sony were arguably worse, so when it comes to consoles, I’m pretty fine with ‘regressive’.

I don’t know if Craig wrote his own jokes, but he did have some of the best ones. If there ever was a schism between Apple execs about the use of garish textures in OS X and iOS, WWDC ’13 basically proves it.

At least Apple didn’t steal the idea of having two clocks on your lock screen.
That’s not to say the resemblance isn’t uncanny, but there’s a difference between two designers applying ‘minimalism’ and getting about the same result versus one designer rigorously analyzing someone else’s design to create something similar. If you really think that someone at Apple deliberately tried to copy Android’s lock screen you’re delusional.

It’s an exceptionally well designed and crafted piece of hardware with good performance and battery life, if not great, at a competitive price point. Mac OS may be a pro or a con depending on your point of view, but at least you can run Windows on it as well. It may not be the market leader in terms of raw specs (and hey, it’s Apple, what did you expect?), but it doesn’t seem like a ‘weak’ package to me.
Now Apple send me my cheque.

Apple has had only three or four different Mac models (with an X number of different configurations) for many years now and they’re still doing exceptionally well in both laptops and desktops, outpacing many competitors in terms of growth, market share and overall profits. I don’t think they need to fill every niche to be successful. If you want a laptop that folds a certain way and has a touch screen, you’ll have to buy one from their competitors.
