These will probably be important and will likely be used to create great, powerful apps.
I think that’s what is being missed. The pay-off will be in about a year when devs have rolled this stuff out into awesome apps. The android platform and what it provides is getting to the point that its difficult to add more to the actual OS itself. I think Google has done a good job at trying to separate the OS from the APIs and services that can be provided. That’s the key. Unified products across all platforms.
But, I was hoping for a nexus 7 refresh considering it was released at IO last year. Oh well, there’ll be one soon enough.
From that aspect, it’s actually amazing. This was a GREAT conference for Google. It sucked for Android. But even for consumers, lots of cool stuff. Google Music, Hangouts, improved photos, maps. And the new APIs mean we get apps that will be better than ever.
Though I don’t like Monsanto at all, but this really was a slam-dunk in their favor.
The cases I would be interested in are where a farmer’s non-Monsanto crop got cross-pollinated with the Monsanto crops. Then, they harvest and save seed for next year and re-plant. Eventually they have a plant with the some of the same properties as the Monsanto crop. Then Monsanto sues that farmer for retaining seed with their patents in it, even though that farmer never bought Monsanto-sourced seed.
