I wouldn’t really expect them to go the other way with it. Now compatibility with AIM and other chat services? That’s probably up in the air.

I asked this question on TheVerge forums after Google I/O and received no responses. Glad to see it’s been addressed, definitely will be holding out. I use the current standard to talk to people who have held out on AIM and regularly place/receive calls with Google Voice. It’s good to know they’re working on it, but it’s something I think they should have probably integrated before the release.
