But it seems that the Xbox One will increase cost with a mandatory Kinect instead. So in terms of component cost it makes little difference, it’s just where they spent it. Kinect will also remain on at all times adding to power consumption (Kinect was 12 watts) so it doesn’t even make a difference to actual total system power consumption for the user.
I don’t think it’s a bad decision at all to invest in faster GDDR5, the extra power consumption at worst will mean it needs better heat dissipation, Sony are pretty good at their cooling. The use of GDDR5 in PS4 will itself decrease cost of GDDR5 because it increases volume, then more PC graphics cards will also begin using it decreasing cost even further. GDDR5 is forward looking, It aims for longevity whereas DDR3 is already dated by DDR4, DDR3 will severely drop in volume and price advantage will slowly fade.

When there are confirmed mandatory installs for all games (25GB/50GB games) I’d imagine 500GB is going to get eaten fast. Good thing you can use external storage, though not the prettiest solution. I just hope it’s not artificially restricted to small external storage like it was on 360.

OK, one last time because I can only hope this is some kind of misunderstanding. I also have no idea why you have this fascination with calling me dense and stupid either. Do not put words in my mouth I never said it’s too hard for google to make a metro app, I said Google sees no point investing money to conform to MS’s strict metro rules.
You said “Google only make one app for windows 8 and that’s a pathetic search app”
I said “no, Google make the following for Windows 8”: Google Chrome, Google Drive, Google Earth, Google Talk, Picasa, “pathetic search app”, etc… and Google Chrome is their web app store where they’ve always offered their suite of services "
These are NOT sites on a browser these are apps you can install on Windows 8 and they get updates.
Your argument then was “but these are window 7 programs”
I then said "No, they get windows 8 specific updates, Chrome even has windows 8 mode as a menu option. These are desktop Windows 8 apps.
Your argument then was “Bullshit Google said they won’t invest in windows 8, Where are they in the store”
I then said that’s because they aren’t metro apps because “Google sees no point investing money just to conform to MS’s look for certification, but that has nothing to do with catering to the windows 8 marketshare by actually releasing apps for download on their own sites”
You then went back to
But the simple fact is, there are no apps MADE for windows 8/metro
Simple fact: to make and distribute ANY metro app you MUST distribute on the store only, and must have certification
http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/29/windows-store-metro-mode-no-sideloading-psa/
Therefore when google say “we are very careful about where we invest and that’s not windows 8” yet they are updating their desktop apps for windows 8 and distributing it from their own site. Its easy to deduce they are not interested in investing in windows 8/metro. As shown in the link above Metro and Windows Store certification are synonyms. Store certification becomes a necessity for any metro app. It would also mean two separate versions (metro with certification and desktop with compatibility).
Investing in a metro app is investing in store certification. They are the exact same thing because of that rule above. So when Google tell you they aren’t interested in investing in Windows 8/metro but are making Windows 8/desktop apps it means they are not interested in metro which in turn means they are not interested in investing to conform to strict store certification rules. Users for the store, the users of touchscreen devices where metro/certification would be a necessity. Those are what’s low.
I mean what’s so hard for you to deduce from this.
1) There are actively developed Google desktop apps on windows 8.
2) There are no metro Google apps on windows 8. (bar the search app)
It’s clear Google are not interested in conforming to metro which would require certification and be distributable only from the Windows store but they DO release Windows 8 desktop apps and distribute it with their own UI on their own sites. Conclusion: Google is interested in Windows 8 but Google is NOT interested in store certification/metro.

It’s not really a mystery when devkits are out, that’s where the leaks are coming from the Xbox One only has DDR3. It also has a reported 1.2 teraflop APU compared to a 1.84teraflop APU on the PS4. The point was they never really mentioned specs because it was in their best interest to avoid it.

Sometimes it’s not about paying the bribes, sometimes it’s about being the better publisher and willing to take the risk of backing unknown genres and experiences instead of “hey that’s a shooter, I hear those are in, lets fund it”.
Look at “The Witness” on PS4 for example. There was no exchange of money for exclusivity just Sony showing a lot of interest in unproven games from indie developers. The same with Unfinished Swan and Journey/Flower.

The Xbox One has 1.2 teraflops. I think you’re mixing it up with the PS4 which is near 2 teraflops (1.84 teraflops)

Keeping your old consoles is not a bad thing it just defeats the point of asking for BC. There is no way to actually play the game on the Xbox One. You would have to insert the disc into the xbox 360 then use the Xbox One as only a hdmi pass-through, so you can’t tuck it away. It would be like playing the thing on the 360 directly connected to the TV only the xbox One would be on for absolutely no reason. I don’t see what the point is.
Apparently the wireless protocol is different so there is no way you can control it with the new controller unless you somehow connect the one and 360 by usb, but this will add controller input lag too.

Guys, why do I not see any slot for a HDD. Does this mean we’re expected to buy a new console if we want more storage?
