Ultimately yes, but there is probably 4-5 levels of management (if not more) above the poor sod that codes Win 8/RT/WP or the guy that made this before we hit the group that reports directly to Ballmer.

Huawei would buy any big western smart phone brand to help push into that market.
If Nokia did go up for sale I could see Apple and MS teaming up to buy it.

Office in RT is Student and Home, which I would imagine would have an allowance for “academic publishing”.
But I could also be wrong (wouldn’t be the first time)

Where’s my tin foil hat when I need it.
I’m still amazed at how surprised everyone is that the NSA snoops on incoming data traffic to the US. Seriously when you cross the boarder – customs checks you out, when you send a package to a person or company customs checks it out, and low and behold when you send a data package to a person or company in the US they check it out. Shock and aw, shock and aw.
I think that this has to some extent been blown out of proportion and that the media has done a poor job of explain what going on, which is partly due to the lack of information. But if you think your shits that important that there’s some dude sitting in a corner reading every little bit of information you have your way off the mark.
Am I worried that I’ve written this from a country other than the US, which will go onto a US site, hosted on a US server there for be viewed by the NSA – in a word No do I care if they look at it, not really.
To everyone who is worried about having people viewing things they’ve put on the internet – When you put something on the net – you no longer control it, you think you do but you don’t.
Having said that – this could be abused so I am happy to see that is’ come out so there is hopefully more transparency.

You could, but how do you explain that to a customer if you run a business.
My Grandmother uses e-mail and skype for me but has friends that she still writes letters too and that works fine, but how do I video chat with her so she can watch her Great Granddaughter smiling (we live overseas).
There is a huge amount of this which is nice to have, but look at the youth of today in a restaurant. Could you imagine them using a proper paper colouring book in this day and age let alone hand writing a letter to a friend.
I think you’d find even Paul would admit that a full offline experience won’t be plausible in the near future at the rate we’re adopting technology and to an extent isn’t now. Which to be honest is kind of sad.

You can plug a mouse in and use it in metro – works fine in the Metro version of One Note and RT based tablets.
Thing is this is about Outlook for RT – your never (ever) going to use RT on a non tablet device. So why would you want a program that drops you into the desktop which isn’t optimized for touch input which is going to be your main source of interacting with said device?

Why would a 8" Windows tablet suck (aside from the desktop mode which needs to dissapear). The start screen is actually a good way to interact with a tablet.
I’m also not sure what this zero margin is I’m sure both apple and Asus (?) make money on the iPad mini and Nexus 7. Googles choice to spear head the Nexus 7 was in direct response to the fire range of tablets not to mention no single android manufacturer was making a compelling tablet that had gained mind share.
Funny thing is in my office which isn’t all that tech savy we have are 9 people using iPads, 7 people using Win tablets (atom versions) and one Nexus 7. I think a low cost win tablet would be a hit personally.
I would have thought though that RT would have been the choice for sub 9" windows tablets.

How would running a full version of office full screen in the Metro side be useless? They wouldn’t be removing functionality and one would hope they bring in the wheel that’s in Metro version of One Note. The point would be so your not dumping people from metro to desktop which some find confusing.

1. If your going to be doing 3D modelling don’t scimp
2. Get a 15" laptop and a decent screen (Dell make good screens are a reasonable price). 17"+ laptops suck balls to tote around especially if your taking it to class every day
3. I’m a huge fan of 3D Connexion input devices.
My pick would be a Toshiba or an HP, I’ve had good luck with both and killed a couple of Dells but I’m sure someone can say that about Toshiba and HP. I tend to gravitate to the business models they tend to stand up to the test of time better.
I use a W series 15" elitebook might be a touch of over kill I use it for Rhino, Solidworks, AutoCAD (full and light), Navisworks – might be a bit on the pricy side than what your looking for though

^ This – Office for Metro or GTFO
IF MS wants to make Metro the next thing they need to make the proprietary software work in that paradigm or go back to the standard desktop. There is no reason I should have to use desktop on a metro machine to use office and it ruins the experience.

That’s the point
They have their OS it doesn’t allow Bing to be set as default (I’m pretty sure), they don’t want to support windows because their trying to get their users using Chrome OS/Android.
So whinging to the EU in this instance over being treated in this unfairly in an anti competitive way is utter BS. Their not trying to support the platform so until they can prove that they are trying to support Win 8 but aren’t being allowed access no ones going to care.

After the botch that was the WP 8 launch devices announced and not shipped due to software delays, running out of time on additional features ect ect. MS said and was noted by every tech site that they where going to play their cards closer to their chest in future and not reveal the phone software 6 month before it was available to purchases which they’ve done with every release since and including 7.
Windows is an entirely different beast with more manufactures, usage cases, form factors, user base size ect ect. So a public beta makes a little more sense and help them iron out the bugs before they ship millions if not hundreds of million in software keys.
Are they leaving WP behind no, are they still working because their trying to finish it yes, will we see it for Christmas I believe so maybe Black Friday in the US who knows.
