There is a difference between bias and critical, and the Verge is both. MS products are not perfect, but the Verge is primarily a Google shop, and predominately uses Google products.
This makes them unfamiliar with MS products, and results in reviews that are done through the Google lens. This is typical and understandable, and can be dealt with.
Or maybe they use Google products because they tried Microsoft products and decided Google ones are better (protip: it’s my explanation. Listen to the podcast every now and then.)
There is however, a certain bias. For example, when MS reported last quarter’s record numbers, the headline was something like "MS has record profits, Xbox sales tank". Fair enough, but when Apple reported its numbers, you did not see the headline "Apple has record profits, iPod sales down for XX straight quarters".
Xbox is a big division at Microsoft. iPods are becoming increasingly niche as everyone buys smartphones, aka, iPhone sales are cannibalizing iPod sales so iPod sales going down doesn’t matter.

iPod Touch hasn’t changed externally in 5 years.
Uh, yes it has. The original iPod touch didn’t even have volume buttons. First, second, and fourth gen iPod touches all have pretty different designs. The iPhone was redesigned for the 3G in 2008 and the 4 in 2010. MacBook Pros were redesigned considerably when they switched to unibody aluminum in 2008.

I don’t. It’s pretty much a flatter Galaxy Nexus, which is pretty much a bigger Nexus S with a few different materials.

Also, I wish they’d just pull an OS X and get rid of window borders already.

Ribbon in Explorer is still stupid. This isn’t Office, where there was a ton of confusing menus full of easy-to-miss. All they’ve done is take the right click menu and stuck icons on it.
Also, as Paul Thurrott mentioned, the fact that they’re only just now starting to change the desktop to Metro this late in development is a sign of poor project management.

This sounds like the most unintuitive touch UI out there. It totally misses the point of a touchscreen: you touch things directly.

I’m not saying to approach it linearally. I just think that should be the main source of the drama, just like the personal conflict between Eduardo and Mark was the driving force of The Social Network.

Yeah, Pirates of Silicon Valley was way too early to really capture the “redemption” part of the story arc. The iPod hadn’t even been released, nor had his cancer been diagnosed.

I think the most obvious way to frame the drama would be to start with the founding of Apple, chronicle his fall from grace when he is kicked out of the company, follow him through his struggles at NeXT, and lead to his eventual redemption when he returns to and saves Apple. Interspersed with bits of his personal life, of course.
But I’m not a screenwriter.

Perhaps Apple hasn’t changed their UI because millions and millions of people seem perfectly happy with it. It’s downright stupid to say Apple isn’t competing.

Has Nvidia abandoned the English language and started communicating in doublespeak? “…and energy efficiency, so as not to burn through the batteries on mobile devices like the iPad.” If you’re accessing the GPU remotely it should only affect power usage on the host device, not the iPad. How is it a virtualized GPU? Isn’t everything they’re describing basically just Remote Desktop?
What the hell am I reading?

The whole “Faux G” thing isn’t the issue (unless you still don’t consider LTE to be 4G). The problem is that the LTE radios in the new iPad only work on US LTE carriers, meaning you don’t get 4G internationally at all, but they were still selling it as “4G” outside the US.

We had this thread last night, and apparently it was deleted.
However, Siri gets its result for this from WolframAlpha, who apparently considers the second best phone to be the LG 500G feature phone, followed by the HP TouchPad. I’m sure their methodology is flawless.

Like I said, it has nothing to do with legal rights and everything to do with them being dicks.
Also, Apple has gotten plenty of backlash for locking down iOS. Why do you think jailbreaking exists?

It’s not about their legal limits. It’s about, specifically, the Windows RT desktop mode, and how Microsoft is blocking anyone – not just browser makers – from making software for it, and how that’s a dick thing to do when no other version of Windows does this.
