The “pent” in Pentium will always be the “5” in “586” to me. Pentium was a version number in disguise, so its reintroduction as low-end brand has always confused me.
“Celeron” has a mixed heritage – it’s associated with “artificially crippled”, sure, but also some rather beloved overclocking candidates.
Screaming Fist isn’t technically feasible now, let alone the 80s and 90s. Hacking into Russian computer systems from ultralights? Military lasers and EMP weapons? This scenario is at minimum a decade away.
I think of the main story as taking place in the late 21st century.
