I can’t figure out what’s what.
Is Mega the best? Mega is the best, right?
Unless there’s an Ultra.

Rumour has it that that option was removed due to pressure from Google… Brian Klug believes so as well.
And you know what? I’m on Team Google here. The PRIMARY REASON for phasing out the menu button in the first place was because it was confusing to have a mystery button that sometimes worked and sometimes did nothing. The Android team believe that every option within an app should be surfaced within the actual interface of the app itself.
When I do eventually get a One, I’m probably not going to enable any mod to get rid of that three-dot menu, because I value the visual certainty of knowing that when I look at an app, I am seeing everything it has to offer. I won’t ever, ever, be in a situation where I’m slightly puzzled and then think, “Oh, better try the mystery button”.
Of course…
If HTC went with on-screen buttons we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

Come on, man.
Manually postponing every four hours is actually a pain in the ass. To put it off for months requires serious dedication in the name of being compromised.
Fact of the matter is, Windows allows you to do a great many things that are unwise. Like running every day as an admin. Like disabling UAC. Like stopping Defender from running. Like turning off the firewall. Why is THIS PARTICULAR INSTANCE non-negotiable?

if the user is busy with the computer at the scheduled time , it carries out out the maintenance when computer is idle.
Untrue. I’ve seen it running while I’ve been using my computer.
Edit: Now that I think about it, I’ve probably only seen it running because I’ve come BACK to the computer while it has already begun.
In any case, it doesn’t wait for your computer to be idle. It waits for the next scheduled time to run.

I have no idea if it requires developer opt-in. I hope not, but fear so.
However, the feature itself is enabled, go into settings → accounts → Google → and click your Google username, and there will be an option for App Data sync, along with a “last synced” timestamp.

That is kind of terrible.
I’m confused, though, because in the thread linked, the Microsoft support drone suggested you can postpone it. I wouldn’t be surprised if changing the settings in Windows Update even after this message would actually stop it from restarting. Still, that’s not very obvious.
So you definitely have a point. I don’t understand why they would get rid of the “postpone” option.

Automatic Maintenance doesn’t work that way. As seen within this very screenshot – it launches at a set time every day, irrespective of what you’re doing. It basically just does basic housekeeping, it doesn’t need to interrupt anything (the process is cpu/i/o low-priority).
It’s actually one of my favourite features of Windows 8.
Even if it ran the way you suggest, this would not be a good system for updates which DO need to interrupt what you’re doing and require a system reboot. You can leave your computer idle with important stuff in an unsaved state. You can leave your computer idle for fifteen minutes.. and then come back to it at minute sixteen. Windows cannot be psychic.

So… disable automatic updates? You’re on this site so you know about patch Tuesday. You know when to check for updates. You will hear about any out-of-band critical updates. What’s the problem?

Could be wrong, tho.

If you honestly believe the 4.7 inch screen on the One is cheaper than the the 1080p 5-inch ones that are one very other Android device these days, I don’t know what to say to you.
You’re a reasonable guy and I respect most of your opinions but your weird harping on about the 4.7 inch screen is just bizarre.

Sorry, yes, I’m outside my edit window: it DOES give you like three days (or something like that), then will auto-restart at 3am, with an onscreen popup fifteen minutes before telling you it’s going to happen.
It takes some serious procrastination to miss that window imo.

I believe that by default it will auto-restart at 3am. You are prompted fifteen minutes before it does, giving you time to cancel.
At least by my memory – I set Windows Update to automatically download updates but to let me manually install them at my convenience.
