I don’t know if you should get the Lumia, but you definitely shouldn’t get the One at that price without a warranty.

What I found interesting about the Verge article is that some of those resignations were actually announced awhile ago. For example, this article from January:
http://focustaiwan.tw/news/aeco/201301030007.aspx
Mentioned the upcoming departures of Kouji Kodera and Matthew Costello.
I’m sure things are terrible for HTC’s employees in Seattle. And maybe all their jobs are numbered anyway – surely the only reason that Seattle branch existed was because of proximity to Microsoft back when HTC was the go-to OEM for Windows Mobile…
I don’t know
It does seem that the axe fell on at least some employees because of the One X’s performance.

Because Google is a tiny organisation with a single team of like five people who oversee all products and are unable to do more than two things at a time.

I’m not a gamer so maybe my opinion isn’t worth much, but I LOVE it. Like, really, really love it. I could do without the gloss, but the overall aesthetic, with the big 80s vents, the Blade Runner-ness of it, and the way it looks like two different machines stuck together? Unique, attractive, original and inconspicuous all at the same time. Like, stealth-brilliance.

No, because most Windows developers are very hesitant to adapt to new ways of doing things. If that wasn’t the case, maybe the Metro environment wouldn’t have been necessary at all – I suspect Microsoft got tired of implementing new APIs that literally nobody used.

There wasn’t a global launch. First Germany, then the UK… It hasn’t even launched yet in some countries due to production issues.

They’re supply-constrained. The One is frequently out of stock between shipments in many counties. So I’d say the difference between sold and shipped would be marginal.

Remember when Google announced the GS4 Google Edition and the entire world was overjoyed and there was partying in the streets and people literally threw their current phones on the floor and smashed their screens in because they were immediately rendered useless by such a monumental announcement?
No, I don’t remember that either.
I remember a lot of whining about the price, and then a lot of “ehs” and “uhms”.
Which is exactly what would happen should a stock Android HTC device land.

HTC have a long history with “one”.
There was also the Nexus One, of course.
But they also bought the design firm, One and Co., which still designs many (all?) of their devices. That’s also the firm behind Microsoft’s Arc mouse, btw.

It’s a question of resources. Your entire argument is absurd. HTC are many times smaller than every single one of their rivals and yet they punch way above their weight. Before the Galaxy S series, they were the most successful Android vendor. They still remain a distant second, and they’re still pulling in (shrinking, tiny) profits while most of their competitors are losing money in this sphere. The very fact that HTC are able to compete and beat companies as large and ubiquitous as Sony and LG is incredible.
To expect them to cultivate equivalent brand awareness, or to have the resources to compete at every price point, or to compete in as many markets, is ridiculous. The only thing HTC can do, is design better phones. Which they have done, again and a again. Maybe not against Samsung, but definitely against the rest.

Yeah, I’m confused.
The Galaxy S2 was a landmark device. The HTCs around that time weren’t as good, especially from a software standpoint. I think we can all acknowledge that. But they weren’t terrible? The only hardware complaints I heard stemmed from the battery life. HTC always, always had great design, and in a way, especially so on something like the Desire HD which was incredibly rugged as well as being gorgeous.

Wildfire was a budget phone. Do you think any Android phone at that price range was better at the time?
