Rockmelt is built from Chromium, Facebook wouldn’t want to work with Google’s open-sourced Chromium code + They’d have to do the work themselves, if they buy Opera they get the talent and two or 3 mobile browsers

Why don’t they just fork Chromium or provide a Facebook version of Firefox?

Exactly
I know Facebook’s ‘like/share/recommend button’ phones home with your visits, but a whole essentially ‘bugged’ browsing experience?
Will be a shame to have to stop using Opera occasionally, especially as Facebook are closing down Lightbox which I use a fair amount.
Damn

Yes, that’s a good point about the dual nature of design.

That is a point where it’s so strongly highlighted as weak spot, but still gets an 8.
Confusing.

Very inefficient ads & their mobile strategy was to blow a billion on Instagram & close down Lightbox????
Zuckerberg & the very early investors have played an awesome game attracting later investors to his baby & growing perceived (but not actual value) but it’s a whole different world now.

That’s not the point if Facebook was intentionally vague or if the underwriters’ buddies across the hall in the investment side only warned top clients.
Organisations that go through these processes have legal responsibilities, we’ll see if they were followed.

Absolutely
But a site that covers & gives opinion on all tech matters & companies is heavily entrenched into one company.

I said “least criticism” not no criticism. One company gets the easiest ride, that’s plain to see from 90% of writers here.

Google ads are very discreet, I barely notice them… My wife asked me to sign into her Hotmail and I couldn’t believe the ads.
Properly targeted ads are as useful & sometimes more useful as search results

Facebook + Instagram + Lightbox will be more than tough competitors.
Lack of ‘vanity url’ and nicknames (unless you want that nickname on your gmail) is a problem too.
I dabble in G+ occasionally, it’s very, very active if you add some shared circles, all you need to do is engage with people in those circles and it’s a very active social network.

Because they knew they were on a loser
It’s the patent part of the trial which would have given leverage for Oracle to ban the sales of Android devices unless Google paid them a licence fee per unit (Oracle tax on sale of each device)
Copyright bit, stands Google at $150k and that’s IF the judge finds that part of the code copyrightable.

What a load of crap, you either type in Google.com to your browser or you don’t, it’s your choice; Bing, duckduckgo & others exist.
The rest of it is down to cookie management and there’s far worse out there than Google.
Anyway, what’s worse than targeted ads? untargeted ads

That’s already been dealt with.
Jury said Google did inrfinge copyright, it’s now up to the judge to decide if it was copyrightable
If so, it’s a statutory $150K.
Probably not even a days worth of lawyers…

Jury already found Google guilty of infinging copyright in phase 1. Judge now has to decide if what Google infringed was copyrightable, if so Oracle are going to get the statutory $150k Not even pocket money.

He’s already said damages for that will be around $150k
So not much in it for Oracle, beyond boring everyone to death with appeal after appeals & there’s little appetite for courts to be used as pawns… as per the Moto Vs Microsoft case.
