Oh, so one reviewer’s word matters? Those who hammered this device for being uninspired and ugly are not going to change their minds when they hold the faux brushed metal in their hands.
IMO, weak review from Vlad. Way too apologetic, I don’t see why this device can score anywhere close to the One X.

If you think there’s no resemblance, you’re the delusional one. No one here is saying it’s an exact copy, and I reckon it’s a pretty awesome device on its own merits. Enough with the knee-jerk responses.

Because one commenter’s word on the Internet is a reasonable counter to widespread disappointment.

It’s a pity. 720p is a great resolution (media and such), but I really don’t want anything bigger than 4".

What part of Windows do ordinary people not know how to use?
Wow. How out of touch are you with the real world?

You’re a joke. You think schools will be unable to lock down the Marketplace?

If you look at Windows 8, you can clearly see that the desktop development is the legacy environment (whether Microsoft wants to admit it or not). It’s there because the Metro shell isn’t full-featured enough to stand by itself yet, because there are still some things to be sorted in terms of layout of high information density apps.
The desktop will probably be used by major development houses which provide more professional tools, and this cost won’t be big. An indie developer should definitely be targeting Metro.

Groklaw is incredibly pro-open source and that is plainly stated. There is no objectivity if your crusade is to assist the open source community.

Get a life? Really, in 2012?
Windows 7 work because it was the culmination of Windows to date. It is the best version ever because everything finally works.
Everything does not finally work. I believe Windows 8 moves closer to that goal.

other stupid people besides yourself
Skimmed through and stop right there. Just because I recognise and plainly state the unnecessary complexities of the products I use does not make me stupid. I’m guessing that sitting around and accepting tedious things the way they are is the way forwards?
There are millions of ordinary users who don’t know how to operate a large majority of Windows.

I imagine Windows is a freaking horrible experience to people when compared to their great new iPad. Do the hundreds of millions of Windows users need all the bloat and complexities of the archaic desktop environment? No, they don’t.
I said the desktop needs to be removed or severely revamped. In its current state, it belongs nowhere but in legacy environments who can’t quickly upgrade. As someone who’s extensively tweaked and twisted Windows as his primary computing device for over a decade, I think I know what I’m talking about.
I make a statement about separating fact from opinion, and you reply with more rubbish? Your opinion is not fact. Get that in your head, then we’ll talk.

My mistake, it seems Stacks was just the first one to utilise the Full API. IMO, having an app as official isn’t necessary if there are good third-party alternatives, and also means the third-party playing field is kept fair.

An interesting thing is it seems that he sanctioned an app for Windows Phone called Stacks for Instapaper. It only works for paying subscribers, but I’m rather puzzled why there’s nothing similar for Android?

My take was that Microsoft is now going to properly encrypt the Marketplace so that apps can’t be easily downloaded as packages (then distributed), and this encryption wasn’t possible while supporting 7.0 devices.

When did the Apollo rumours first start? Beginning of the year? Mango came out barely two months before that. Do you think Microsoft has everything magically figured out after two months, then stalls for ten so that it doesn’t one-up the competitors?
If a full-blown Apollo upgrade is delivered to existing devices, it will require a proper backup and flash, not a standard Windows Phone upgrade as I doubt it can reach far enough to change the underlying kernel. Working on this won’t will be your priority before even making the changes that constitute Apollo.
