I suppose this might be necessary to preserve network capacity with people switching to smartphones. I might be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but 5 cents per megabyte for overages are just ridiculous. I don’t understand why so many service providers these days seem intent on punishing their best customers.

So what you’re saying is that they should waste a huge amount of internal space (an optical drive is much larger than a second HD, so even that option would be a waste of space) just to provide consumer options? I’ll repeat, what are you using the optical drive for on a regular bases?

This. Even if thunderbolt was completely useless in every other way (which it certainly isn’t), this alone makes it amazing for anyone who wants to effectively dock a laptop. Besides, Thunderbolt – DisplayPort != USB 3.0.

That makes the cable expensive, but it seems unlikely that the prices won’t drop significantly once more companies are producing cables. (Monoprice, I’m looking at you.)
