I’m not saying darker is better, it’s just different that’s all. There’s nobility to be found in both and there are good stories in both. The problem comes with making the character consistent with the world in which they live and vice versa. If you do that, there is much to be gleaned.

I agree, it is a good portrait of Superman because he is best portrayed with a sense of romanticism. The scenes of Superman in full color with rainbows and butterflies — although satirical — are wholly accurate to the true character.

The point being that comparing Superman and Batman is a fruitless endeavor because they each inhabit a different zeitgeist altogether.

Put simply; Batman is dark, Superman is not. They are two different sides of two different coins.

Of course, I say all this as a Batman fanboy.

I would work your way backwards (generation speaking) from the J.J. Abrams reboot, the Next Generation films, and then the Original Series films. I haven’t seen all the original films, but my favorite ones are Wrath of Khan, Voyage Home, First Contact, and the 2009 reboot.

I’m sure there are opinions to the contrary, but alas, that’s what I have to say.
