Joining The Verge team was an opportunity Chris Welch refused to let pass, despite a lengthy commute between headquarters and his suburban abode. Like his colleagues, he carries a tremendous passion for the tech space, turning his focus to photography, music, gaming and his Blu-ray collection in the rare instance of free time. None of it would be quite as fun if not for his supportive family, tight-knit friends and spectacular girlfriend. Twitter: @chriswelch

Panasonic is doing a fine job carrying the plasma torch these days. Might have to pick up an ST50 series set this year. It’s getting all sorts of rave reviews.

I’ve had an Apple TV and WD TV Live at different points in time, and neither stuck around long. I really liked WD’s metadata/artwork lookup for media, and it obviously plays back mkv files better than anything else, but in the end I decided to stick with PS3 Media Server.

It’s difficult to be clear on that when it wasn’t clarified during Shammo’s remarks. Sorry. :-(

I’m tempted to lean the same way, but no other carrier is even remotely close to Verizon in terms of LTE expansion.
