Pass. And I say that as someone who has been loyal since I was recommended the original almost ten years ago. I just canceled my auto-renewal for Live, and the restrictions I’m seeing, with a presumed price bump, aren’t doing anything for me.
I got a few years of backlog that I can pull from, as long as my current consoles hold up.

And if one doesn’t like the new design, fine. It’s the people going absolutely apeshit I have no sympathy for.

When searching for images, I always use the format used by Bing, Google and Flickr where I can see a multitude of images at once. I can see exactly what the image is intended to be, and if I want more detail I will click on it. Having thumbnails in which you can barely discern details isn’t helpful. I don’t want to have to click on an image to figure out what it is. The old design featured a multitude of unnecessary clicks to view anything.
If I were reading that page on a phone, I might enjoy it. Not on a widescreen monitor where the whitespace takes up 2/3 of the screen. It might be easily readable, but a well-designed website it is not. Not to me.
It’s very obvious the team at Yahoo think that they will generate more revenue by people looking at pictures than they will people who don’t want ads. I think they might be right. I’ve viewed Flickr as somewhat of a photo repository, but more accurately as a search-specific image repository. I know I can’t be the only one. And for that reason, the redesign works. For the people who showcase their work on the site for revenue, this redesign should indicate loud and clear you aren’t the target audience anymore.

I also prefer not to stare at the sun for ten hours a day, either.
It’s much more comfortable to look at things that smartly fill a space than having your eye drawn toward a wasteful expanse of pixel-killing light.

Yes. The idea today seems to be complain first, understand later.

The old design was awful to look at, physically and mentally. Whitespace sucks on a monitor. I know, I have to look at a few about ten hours each day.

It’s so much easier to see comments on the photos from the old Justified search, which is (IMO) the only way to look at multiple images.

Either the ads are turned off right now, or AdBlock completely hides any hint of apps. Good luck to them getting their $50 a year if that’s the case.
