How is choosing between those 2 Sony models and the Surface RT a dilemma? Aren’t they completely different products? If you were talking about the Surface Pro, then I would understand.

I’m sorry but isn’t the market cap of Huawei lower than Nokia’s? Is this a joke? Going by today’s prices, 1/2 million lower to be exact.

Honestly, for MYSELF, it has come down to a very simple analysis:
Most functionality: Android
Best overall experience: Windows Phone
I have no idea about the iPhone since I haven’t used it since forever.
But yeah, crap like this are annoying.

Isn’t the touchscreen only useful if you are in the Metro interface? Do you actually use it if you are using Firefox in desktop mode? Or when typing a Word document?

Hey Nilay.. any chance you can install Win7 (or even better Win8) on this, and run your battery test there? Pleaaaaaase?!

When T-Mobile re-farms their network and Nokia releases it contract-free, carrier-free, yes! No more turning back to AT&T. I made that mistake with my 920, and paid $260 for fixing it!

Seriously! Being on an AT&T contract and not getting a subsidized device, is stupid no matter how you look at it. Now being an AT&T customer at all or not.. that’s a different story.

I hate that argument so much whenever it’s brought up. AT&T made $7.3 billion in profits in 2012. Why don’t we stop pretending that they are charging their customers below cost or something?

And besides that, you have ridiculous articles like on this website, that compare the price of getting an iPhone on a T-Mobile “2 year” contract-free plan, vs AT&T’s and Verizon’s 2 years. Guess what? The point of contract-free plans is that either you get a cheap device (e.g. Lumia 520 for $150 unlocked), or if you get a fancy device, you keep it for more than 2 years. This mentality that one needs to (a) get a fancy phone and (b) upgrade it every 2 years is something planted deep inside the mind of Americans, and they deserve every single shenanigan that AT&T or Verizon pulls on them.
Sincerely,
Ex-AT&T customer (as of <1 month ago) who paid a $260 ETF to go to T-Mobile and will never look back, despite losing LTE and having admittedly worse coverage. I refuse to be part of this nonsense anymore.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that it’s one thing to talk about displaying something in 1080p, and it’s another thing capturing AND processing it. What I mean is that the new Kinnect, needs to process on-the-fly, the input of two 1080p cameras. Compared to the original Kinnect, that’s a big increase in bandwidth requirements. From a technological standpoint, it is an impressive upgrade, and allows for detection at a much finer granularity than any similar technology that exists now (at least in the consumer space).

That’s the exception and not the rule. The Google Voice app I use was also down for 5 days over the last 390 that has been around. I can live with that.

My opinion is that if you are ok with using third-party alternatives, that are often better than the official apps on other platforms, then you will be more than ok. Whether you will like it more than iOS will be a matter of UX design, and the flow within apps (e.g. I like reading Reddit much more on my WP than on my Nexus 7, due to being able to swipe left/right from story to story, without having to go in and out between individual stories and the main story feed).
