This article ought to point out that the bottleneck is the Thunderbolt connector’s DisplayPort 1.1 standard, which does not support 4K properly. The GPU itself is serviceable if not ideal.
This will be fixed in 2014 Macs with Thunderbolt 2. As it is, this article is misleading at best and sensationalist at worst and I’d expect better from The Verge.
