The RFID tags aren’t that much, like $1/tag. The cost is everything else: software, rfid reader(s), rugged-ized devices, etc. It was also my understanding that MOST of the cattle in the US ARE tracked via RFID. But the argument that small cattle farms don’t use electronic tagging is definitely correct. That might mean the majority of farms don’t use RFID, but that doesn’t mean the majority of cattle are not being tagged.
