Facebook didn’t need ads. They had Apple. As soon as the iphone finally started marketing apps, Facebook was clear and away “on the map”.

I have a new one too, 1 month old, and I have found that taking the baby so mommy can rest usually consists of her laying on my chest and me killing bad guys online. Don’t give up on gaming just yet. 2 years is a long time.

This is a rant, and some of it is not directed at you, but the entire thread.
While I understand your frustration, I have heard this same speech in several different industries recently. Let’s talk about the bottom line…people doing what you can do, (maybe worse, maybe better) for cheaper and you have a problem with it. Whether it be, for financial reasons or personal reasons, you can’t stoop to the level of this “amateuer” using pixelmator.
We have to get passed this silliness.
The world is full of people that have developed their talents and techniques using industry standard stuff, and alternatives. Just because he uses pixelmator does not make him any worse than you. If he can get the job done without spending $600 why fault him? Pixelmator is not taking your job, he is, and why wouldn’t he smile? He just took your job. Is it his fault you have standards, and (subjective) pride that you can’t take a job for lower than your worth? I know…but then you will devalue your worth. Yeah, yeah yeah, so will not working…
If you have a problem with people taking your jobs by lowcutting you, provide a reason better than, my price is the industry standard…and maybe show reason other than…I have this design degree and this design app to justify your cost.
Second.
I own a premium DJ company that charges quite a great deal for private events. I have heard countless times, “Yeah, but I can get bedroom DJ Micky D for X$$$”. My response, of course you can, but this is what my company brings to the table for the higher costs…
There are always cheaper people out there…sometimes, they’re cheaper because the are just starting out and will take a loss for marketshare, sometimes they’re not as good…but I never take them for granted. Those very same guys could be taking my work next year…so I work even harder, and negotiate price points that everyone is comfortable with.
When it’s all said and done, what’s more important? Not doing the work and have NOBODY know you exists, or do the work for less, and potentially open up your market to new customers?

Geez…is your current phone broken? I’d never leave a great service because they didn’t have some shiny new phone. In 3 months, there will be a better one. That’s the nature of Android.

Don’t confuse cyclists with Hipsters and Bike Messengers. They are not the same group. Here in CA, we have a huge cycling community and they adhere more to traffic laws than most cars. We even use hand signals…and I’m in my 30s

Creativity is not created by software. For every person using some homogeneus software to produce mass content, there is another person using it or something else to produce stunning compositions. It’s not the software that’s the problem. I am a musician and a DJ. All of my tools are readily available to everyone, and in some cases, the software has attempted to emulate what I have spent years learning, yet everyone sounds very different. We all grow up different, listen or watching media differently so you would expect the media they create to be different. Everyone of these apps are tools and if my kid pulls up Garageband on his ipod and starts making music quick and easy, he then begins to love the creative aspects, even if the end result is being spoonfed to him. You have to start somewhere. I have no problem with it..
