They’re going to have to work with the carriers on this, just like they did with Google Voice, because there is no way they’ll let the service work if it skirts around their minute caps…
So as usual, you can blame the carriers for the incremental roll out.

Not to be rude, but it doesn’t sound like you know what you are talking about.
If he ever wanted to recovery anything, he’d have to show how he planned to use the patent to make money, and how others’ uses of the patent caused him to lose money. Was he going to sell his method directly? I mean after 16 years of not selling it, I seriously doubt it. And if not, then he’d have to show that using his particular form of security would somehow be a reliable way of getting customers of another type, and not just any type of customer, but a customer in the same market as one that Kim has a business in. So by using his patent, Google et al. somehow siphoned customers away from his businesses. That is an incredibly strained argument considering what his primary business was. And even then, just to get to that question, there are a thousand steps before that in patent litigation, and he’d incur millions in attorney’s fees just to have the question placed in front of a jury.

There are a lot of one way streets in pretty much every major downtown… These signs are needlessly confusing. They make you think you are approaching another one way street because that’s what it looks like out of your peripheral vision. Only when you actively look at it do you realize what it says, which then causes you to think deeper about it and why they would make such a sign, which takes your concentration further off the road, which, finally, makes you more prone to a mistake in the busy downtown street and pedestrian traffic. Get it? It’s ironic. And irony, being a popular sentiment during the 90s, a decade which is alive and well in Portland, means that the sign’s irony is itself ironic.
I hate explaining the joke, but I just love that sign.

I don’t think Kim is an idiot… so he very likely knows that proving damages or otherwise using this patent in an offensive manner is a no win proposition. He just did this for publicity

I love traffic circles when driving in areas where people (generally) know how to actually drive in them. They’re very efficient interchanges.
But if you have a populace that doesn’t know what its doing… they turn into friggin death traps.

Hah… saw a similar scene at Ward Circle in DC. The guy ended up going over a metal post and ripping the transmission out of his car.

I just hope MS stops with the whole scroogled BD after this… B/C these implications are much worse than the implications for Google’s products.
