June 11. New Siri features shown. Mentioned for iOS 6 later this year, available September 4 with the new iPhone, out of beta then.

It’s the frame rate. iOS does some weird-ass trickery by design to keep things silky smooth. Did you know iOS devices use far more battery power on the home screen at idle than when in an app like a browser or email? iOS refreshes the screen at a ridiculous rate and also keeps the latency down when on the home screen to make it really smooth.
If Android refreshed the screen that often, you’d get seriously terrible battery life, it’s all a trade off.

I think it’s a good test. Siri works surprisingly well with the accent, and it’s more of a real world situation than if it were tested with someone from California, using a headset, in an anechoic chamber.

It’s the fastest most accurate tech of its kind, still. (Despite reduced functionality outside the USA) And it hasn’t changed at all since launch as a ‘beta’ seven months ago. You can bet your ass it will have some massive improvements arriving June 11.

Galaxy Note running ICS? Low frame rate home screens everywhere. Horrid experience.
Look, if I wanted that sort of frame rate, I’d play Skyrim on Intel GMA900.
I don’t.

The Verge does not get paid by Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Red, Axis etc.
The are paid by the Observers, but only in cheesecake. Sure they’re violating the future, but who wouldn’t for good cheesecake?
