It’s been like this in Australia for about a year now. Sucks sending friends overseas gifts that have built in batteries :(
I’ve tried to send iPads and iPhones to friends working in China, and Australia Post won’t take it. So I lied and said “there’s no battery in here, it’s just a computer part” and even then, Chinese customs holds it up for about a month.
Only way to ship stuff overseas with a battery is to use a service like DHL, UPS, FedEx, which is pretty easy in the US, but in Australia, we don’t have retail outlets for those carriers, so it’s a pain in the arse.
