I agree that fragmentation is not a problem. Android apps still run great on most any device without issues, and the few issues are almost always quickly resolved by app developers.
The real problem is that people want updates, not fragmentation. I don’t think the roar of the crowd is…OMG this is so fragmented…I can’t do ________ on this device because of fragmentation. What everyone is saying is….“Damn it all to hell, why doesn’t my 6 month old device get the latest version of Android?”

The truth is, a lot of devs have long ago updated their apps to work with ICS. And even if they don’t, it doesn’t matter all that much. The apps will still work just fine on ICS.
What’s more important, is that developers create their apps conforming to all of Androids APIs and Style guides. If they do that, and most developers clearly do, then the app will run on almost any Android device without problems.

Totally time to ditch bionic. What a fail. Bionic is going to loose all developer support.

It’s more than a rumor, some journalist studied leaks by the Washington Post and found a suspiciously seemingly coordinated list of leaks. Rumors that always are to the benefit of Apple at just the right time. One of the big ones was the rumor only a few days before the original iPad launch that said it would cost $999. So when the iPad was announced at $500…the whole world gasped in astonishment.
Apple marketing are master manipulators of consumer perception and expectations. They don’t want people to jump ship to the obvious trend towards larger HD displays.

Seriously though, when in the hell is this thing coming to the US, and particularly Verizon? I would pre-order now!!! Unfortunately I think I’m going to get a Nexus in the next week if I don’t have the option to pre-order this phone yet.

In which case it would finally outspec the Galaxy Nexus, given that Motorola audio and call quality are the best in the business. But I still am going to go with a Nexus because I want to be able to get Android updates quickly and without bugs. Coming from a Droid Bionic, it got ICS fairly quickly from the custom ROM community, but there are problems with video playback, Flash, and consistent data connection due to the fact that the phone has a locked boot loader and there’s only so much hacking any of the excellent developers can do. So sad that everyone has to wait till motorola gets around to updating the Bionic officially to ICS.
I’m even going to steer clear of the Samsung Galaxy III for the same reason. It will get updated so behind schedule. The Nexus is the way to go for now.

They should have made a Zune music player app for both iPhone and Android long ago. The Zune music software is still really good and far less bloated than iTunes. But if I can’t use it with my phone, then it’s a no go.

I loved my Zune 30 Gig and later was completely amazed by the Zune HD. I still enjoy the Uber Music app in Android marketplace that emulates the Zune HD interface perfectly.
I think Microsoft’s big mistake was not making the Zune a Plays for Sure device. They should have allowed the Zune to work with any audio store, and they would have sold way more. They also should have let any Plays for Sure music player work with the Zune software. This would have solidified the Zune marketeplace as a solid alternative to iTunes.
The Zune and my iPod are irrelevant now that I use my cell phone for music playback.

well and then there’s the lack of a quality data network with Sprint, so the cloud is difficult.

No matter what this device looks like, Samsungs are known for having really thin and light phones made of plastic, but they are also known for their durability despite the lack of heft.
I think this phone is being dumped on without much reason. It looks to be an excellent upgrade to the Galaxy S line…and that’s all it needs to be to be very successful and for many people to love it.

Wish they would slow this thing down for an even greater savings in power consumption. I don’t think phones are lacking in speed so much as they are battery life.
