I question the methodology. A minor oversight in coding could, by definition, create a selection bias and skew the numbers. Until we have full blown AI, algorithms are always going to miss the corner cases because of human inability to foresee every permutation

The Verge has devolved to infrequent, high quality and in depth posts with a raft of click bait inbetween. Left Ars Technica to come here for that exact reason and it looks like its time to move on again

If you think NYC, London and Paris have squalor, check out the bad part of Dubai. That place is 1/4 tall ass buildings paid for by anachronistic monarchs and 3/4 the people whose money was taken and who live in squalor in the shadow of the prince’s playhouse
