That would also trim the running time of Michael Bay movies. I approve.

Unlikely, as Siri is entirely cloud-based for its voice recognition and responses. The only thing the phone is doing is recording the voice and showing results. All processing is at Apple’s data centers, where they can tweak any time they want. The only reason it’s relegated to newer hardware (aside from marketing) is Apple added better noise cancellation hardware on the 4S specifically for Siri.

Normally I’d agree, but I was sitting at a party last weekend and someone asked a simple question. I was going to reach for an iPad or computer, but a friend just whipped out Siri, asked it, and got the answer ASAP. I couldn’t even get another device out to type, and BAM – done.
While accuracy has a ways to go, the fact that the modern crop is based on cloud processing power and tweak able algorithms should mean we see much faster progress in that regard.

By that logic we’d still be using serial ports for input devices, floppies to transfer files, parallel interfaces for hard drives, and magnetic storage forever.
Technology moves on as it always has.

Yes, because a lack of Flash entirely on mobile platforms (Adobe killed it off, even on Android) and Flash killers being the most common type of browser add-on are such good signs for a thriving platform.
Flash is as dead now as the floppy was in 2000 – just not everyone had caught on yet.

What the poster is saying is there is no further development of Flash on Android. Adobe killed it off entirely. So you may be able to integrate the old code for a while, but there will be no security updates, performance fixes, integration testing, or other ongoing work to ensure it keeps running.
Flash on mobile is dead. Period.

5) Commonly comes with unwanted behaviors (ads, DRM, background music, etc)

“P2P” is not a protocol, it’s a communications model (peer to peer, as opposed to client/server). Protocols include everything from eDonkey, Gnutella, and yes, BitTorrent. BitTorrent is trademarked, but that does not stop it from being the name of a specific P2P protocol.

“Since when are trademarks considered IP?”
And what do you think they are? They’re not physical but rather creations of the mind (intellectual), and have value and are owned (property).

And they really, deeply, fundamentally do not understand that. I tried arguing this with a relative (VP at one of the major studios, and specifically involved in cable licensing and negotiations), and no matter how much I went on, it just Did. Not. Penetrate. The concept that people will pirate rather than put up with invasive DRM or terrible service was incomprehensible.

They would like nothing more than to kill Hulu (and then Netflix), and I’m sure they’ll use the service collapsing as a result of this as reason to do so. Entirely self-serving.

I raised this with a relative of mine (VP at one of the major studios, and specifically involved in cable licensing and negotiations), and they were absolutely flummoxed as to why this was asinine (my adjective). “Why is it asinine to protect a $56 billion revenue stream? I have many counterpoints to make, understanding that most consumers hate their pay TV providers and want more choice, preferably at little to no cost, which, is not a sustainable business model for those of us in the content business.”

Surprised that no one has mentioned that Dropbox is based on Amazon S3 storage. Amazon may be new to the client end of things, but their enterprise cloud services and offerings are second to none.

Just based on recent news (elderly woman plowing through a supermarket entrance), I’d be very concerned about general confusion, slowing reaction times, and failing eyesight. Automotive technology isn’t going to help that.
Simplest solution to me is to mandate driving tests every five years starting at 65. You can drive as long as you’re capable.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the service that Dropbox provides. This could be JoeSchmoeCo offering accounts to buy sparklier buttons for the app. Anything that links to an outside purchasing site is verboten.
(But aside from that, Apple should be kicking themselves for not coming up with Dropbox first. They did iDisk and such over ten years ago!)

For app data iCloud makes infinitely more sense. But for actual files Dropbox is much better – more people use it, and iCloud makes dealing with files (as opposed to data like calendars, settings, etc) more of a pain than it has any right to be.
