I enjoy Amazon Prime too! I use to go to Best Buy just as a showcase room too. However, I simply read tech news sites like The Verge and customer reviews over what a sales person in a blue shirt said or even what it looked like on display. However, I do enjoy seeing and touching cellphones, but then again I just got to AT&T or Verizon to look at the phones.

Stopped shopping at Best Buy when I was introduced to NewEgg, TigerDirect, Buy.com and Amazon. The prices were always cheaper online then at Best Buy, even with shipping included.

The Verge is the only ultra-orthodox Jew approved tech site to visit for you tech news. I bet Paul is the most famous or possibly the most popular editor at The Verge right now and he isn’t even using the internet….

I agree, Motorola needs to improve their screens. They also need to improve the design of their phones, and get rid of Motorola blur. Although, a lot of people who loved the original droid tend to like Motorola blur. I hope Dennis can also improve Motorola’s advertising…

Hey, your not the first, we get at least one or more of you, who say the same thing on every offline post. “It’s stupid, pointless, stunt, he should be fired, he’s not following the rules he set, blah, blah, blah..” Again, if you don’t give a shit, then why are you commenting on the article? I think it’s funny, because you add traffic and comments to Paul’s article, which then lets The Verge know that readers are still interested in Paul’s offline articles.

I bet it’s way more difficult to quit the internet in New York then most places, but it makes the experiment that much more interesting. Paul needs to create an electronic list or even a sheet of lists of links / urls of things his family, friends, and co-workers want him to see when he gets back on the internet. I bet it sucks to not be able to show something to Paul especially when you know he will love it.

I agree, and to take it even further, and say it’s going to be much worse for Paul, then the average internet user, because his profession revolves around the internet. I think that is why, it’s more entertaining to me, and because I relate to Paul in that I depend on the internet for my job, entertainment and communication.
The next step for Paul, is to keep his offline experience interesting, because he could just go in a cave for a year and then come out with nothing interesting at all. However Paul lives in New York, and works at The Verge, and has an awesome boss, I think he can make it fun for people to read about.

Do you know what it’s like to not have internet now? I’m a little older than Paul, so I do know what it’s like to not have internet, but honestly, not having internet now versus 10 years ago is completely different. We do so much more with the internet now then we have ever have in world history. Just because you know what it’s like to not have internet during the dial up modem time period, doesn’t mean you know what it’s like to not have internet now. I went a couple weeks without internet last summer when I moved into a new home, and it was not easy. When you depend more and more on the internet, the more difficult it can be to leave it.

Ross mentioned this in the comments section, I think in Paul’s previous article. It’s interesting to read it from Paul’s perspective though. I would be asking a lot of question to Paul if I met him…. The first question I would ask him would be… Paul, did you hear about the latest transformer robot?

Don’t listen to the negative comments above, this was the best Vergecast or best tech podcast I’ve listened and seen! This Vergecast made me laugh a lot and made me feel a little emotional when I saw Josh and Nilay defend Paul. I learned more about you guys and it made me appreciate The Verge even more. I agree in that The Verge is not a tech blog site with tech bloggers, and The Verge is not just a technology news site, because you give more than just news and reviews. The Verge is a site that shares good ideas, what the tech companies should have done or didn’t do, it’s a site that discovers all aspects of technology and how it influences the culture and the world. There is no word for this type of website, because you guys are the first to create it.
I know it’s just the first Vergecast with Paul away from the internet, but I already noticed that Paul brings an unique perspective and all sorts of ideas to table. I don’t think just anyone could pull this off though; Paul has a lot of knowledge and experience in technology that allows him to bring the unique perspective. The proof of Paul’s knowledge was in how he was able to get the correct answers to all of them except for one of the Samsung S3 questions.
For those who say and think, “Well, I already know everything about the S3 or BlackBerry 10, Paul slows the Vergecast down.” The reason I think you guys think it’s a waste of time was because the Samsung S3 was announced that day, but if it was announced like on Monday or Saturday, that is a few days until the Vergecast. Part of what I like about the Vergecast is listening to what Josh, Nilay and Paul have to say about the features, and giving a couple minutes to review the features is actually better, especially if the technology was announced like a few days ago, since they only do it once a week.
Keep up the good work Josh, and your decision to let Paul leave the internet was an amazing decision on your part. I think what makes Josh an amazing Chief Editor is that he is willing to take risks by creating a work environment where if someone has a crazy idea, he lets them run with it. I think this will make The Verge even better and stand above the other competitors.
