You know, that running “joke” of Apple not approving apps that compete with its own services (wasn’t always really a joke, but Apple’s been better about it recently).
Yeah… That. That’s the biggest drawback (I just switched from an iPhone to the HTC One, and the Rdio app was driving me nuts). Google will be missing out on a huge portion of its potential customer base if it doesn’t release an iOS app. After all, it did beat Apple to the punch. Might as well rub it in Apple’s face (if Apple approves an app, of course).
This is like the perfect combination of Rdio and Spotify. Nice web interface, my own “library” plus my own uploaded/matched files, thumbs up/down for a Top Rated playlist, etc. Give it a try!
This will put Rdio to shame—the Google Music website, IMO, is already better in terms of responsiveness. Add to that the “HTML5” lab (meaning no Flash), and Google’s 320 kbps MP3s, which I’m sure they’ll offer streaming, since they already have them. Awesome.
Apple should scrap the iTunes Store and redesign it from scratch. Rdio got design right. Clean, simple, crisp. iTunes Store, not so much. Apple should consult Rdio for a redesign. Seriously.
That said, I use Rdio, and not iTunes. On Windows for my own music, I use MusicBee (and can’t wait till it either syncs with iPhones, or I get an Android)/HTC One).
