I'm a big Microsoft fan, and I like to keep up with the latest technology news. I use Windows 8 Pro, and I've got an iPhone 4 and iPad 2.

HTC has just lost all of their unique branding with the HTC One… they won’t be very happy right now. At least Microsoft is the first to actually unveil their hardware.

Windows 8 Pro PC, soon to be running Windows 8.1 Preview
Outlook.com
SkyDrive
Office 2013 (not 365 because I get 2013 Professional Plus ‘free’ on TechNet)
And that’s about it. I’d love to get a Windows 8 touch device/hybrid, but I haven’t found a really good, basically no-compromise one within a good price range yet. Windows Phone is good, but my iPhone 5 has all of the apps I need and want, and Windows Phone doesn’t offer this or the guarantee of future updates. I know I’ll get iOS 7 and beyond, and even though WP has most of the main apps, it doesn’t have some smaller yet better ones (no Fantastical equivalent), and the main apps it does have are out of date (only the original Temple Run, no Wunderlist 2, and BBC iPlayer doesn’t support downloading programs). When Windows Phone is a lot better, I’ll happily move away from the (rather stale) iOS.

At once glance from the Start screen I can check my emails, see my Facebook/Twitter notifications, see the latest headlines, see the weather forecast, see my latest YouTube subscribed channels videos and see the latest RSS feed items. This can’t be done as easily on the desktop; multiple websites or applications would have to be used.

A few people have said that we won’t see the return of the Start button, boot to desktop and charms/start screen improvements for desktop users until the final version, but that seems about all. Big changes should really be tested (though the new desktop UI in Windows 8 wasn’t) by the public before release.

Brilliant; I can’t wait. Windows 8 is great, but 8.1 will be even better (especially with 50/50 snap)

developers will be able to install a Public Preview version of Windows 8.1 in late June
This means that everyone can access the preview, not just Developers, right?
Anyway, it’s great news that it’s free. Microsoft would have made a few mistake if they’d charged for it, even if it was $10.

Good choice – the iPhone 5 is a great phone, and will be even better with iOS 7.

Multiple user accounts would be brilliant. We have a family iPad 2, but I barely use it because it’s just not personal. I have to sign in and out of my email, Facebook and Twitter accounts every time I use it, the homescreen is full of apps I don’t use and the wallpaper is something generic. Being able to sign in and out of a personal account, ideally with a password, would just be brilliant.
I’m not particularly bothered about choosing default apps (I use the stock Mail, Safari and Calendar apps, but with the Fantastical ‘skin’ on Calendar), other than making Google Maps the default instead of Apple Maps. What would be great is having Siri open to third party apps. Being able to create a Task in Wunderlist simply by speaking would be really useful, but I doubt Apple would allow this.
Even if none of my ideal features arrive in iOS 7, I’m still looking forward to it due to the flat design. My iPhone 5 would look a lot better without all of the 3D icons. So would my iPad 2… but that probably won’t get the update.

I use email (with Outlook.com) and Facebook chat mainly, due to them being cross platform. I can continue a conversation on my PC, where it’s easier to type. Occasionally I use iMessage and texting, though as I use Windows neither is cross platform, and I really hate typing on my phone (iPhone 5). It’s just not efficient. And no, I don’t want a BlackBerry.

The Start button and boot to desktop features are heavily rumored to return, so yes, the focus is back on non-touch PCs. I prefer the modern UI though,
