Well with use of biofuels in addition to other renewables, you get that benefit of a transportable, ready-to-use fuel with less emissions than fossil fuels.

Battery technology needs to evolve further though too, so energy generated by renewables can be stored for future use.

My image for the future is to somehow have large localized energy storage centers, (maybe underground?) that will have such a large capacity, more than could be needed, that will be drawn from and continuously replenished. Kind of akin to a water reservoir.
