With all due respect to Vlad, since The Verge is a US-based site, it seems that it would be more useful to more readers to do a comparison between the two systems for a speaker with an American accent.

You forgot to mention going through several brain-dead CEOs who were all pulled from the outside and had no understanding of HP corporate culture, staking most of their business on the printing industry that almost everyone else can see is a dead-end business model in the era of tablets with Retina-caliber displays, and instead canceling tablets, likely because they realize that tablets threaten their printing business… all business decisions that only look to the next quarter with no long-term vision at all.
Oh and a new CEO who has no experience working at any electronics, consulting, services, or software companies, only experience figuring out how to further rape sellers and customers of eBay, constantly raising how much they skim off every transaction even as the cost of their business goes down, because they’re a de facto monopoly.

I don’t think he was referring to the interface, instead the fact that it can run apps developed in HTML/JavaScript. In that way it’s exactly the same idea as webOS.

Seriously, by definition this system does less than the iPad itself, and no one has any trouble picking up the iPad interface.
The giving away an iPad as a manual automatically implies that they know they’ve failed at making their own interface sufficiently easy to use, however. Even for a $45K car, a single $400 cost (I’m going to assume they’re going to use iPad 2’s) is an enormous superfluous cost center.
And they can’t even use it for the gimmick factor because Hyundai already did it with the Equus.
They need to re-think this project. Not that I wouldn’t like to get a free iPad with a car, but not as much as I would rather have a $400 lower price and an infotainment system that didn’t require an instruction manual.
