Well, it is a Nintendo. It might last long enough for your grandchildren to get some mileage out of it.
Edit: I also want to second you and your wife’s awesomeness. I haven’t played the original Mario Kart in forever…classic.

Yes! I thought this was an odd claim as well. We haven’t even made it through a single fiscal year.

This.
They had good third party support immediately at launch (lots of Ubisoft games, in particular), but that doesn’t typically sell Nintendo systems. First party sells Nintendo systems, and everyone else comes along for the ride.

I wouldn’t see Microsoft as a savior in that scenario. It’d be utterly disastrous to Nintendo’s IP.
If Nintendo’s console division did have troubles, it would be better for them to go the way of Sega and develop their own software than to be purchased by another company that doesn’t share their values in the least.

Yup, charging for Internet multiplayer and requiring 24 hour checkins will definitely sell more systems. =P

Good point on FlyOver. It’d be much better on a Mac.
The data is definitely an area Google has an advantage, just because they’ve been doing mapping for much longer. I’d be interested to see if Apple rolls out bigger changes to the data at the same time (like an old-school software release versus web app style).
Personally, I’ve never had a problem with my directions on Apple Maps. It saved me 15-20 minutes the other day, taking me a route that was far faster than the one I was used to taking.

I don’t think he’s right on Maps.
Even in the super short demo they gave of OS X Maps at the keynote had some pretty important ramifications. You can do a lot with Maps integrated in the OS. Adding driving time to the calendar? Minor in some ways, but something useful that I’ve wanted for years. You can’t do that automatically unless Maps is easily accessible by Calendar. Good luck doing that with Google Maps…not because Google Maps is inferior to Apple Maps, but because it’s a web app, not an integrated app.
