No one has said it yet, but you can get an HTC First off contract on eBay for around $200. Enjoy stock Android now with LTE and a great screen until the device you really want comes out later this year. I took this route and have zero regrets, looking forward to seeing what Google and Apple have to offer! Plus the First is actually a pretty great phone.
You might want to consider it if you’re getting tired of the iPhone 4 (Assuming you have AT&T) but aren’t ready to sign up for another two years. Heck it might nearly be a straight trade for your iPhone.
If this really was ordered by Facebook, it may have been negotiated that Facebook decides when to update, and HTC may actually require payment to do so as it would require resources to move through the process.
This could be a good thing. Perhaps 4.3 will bring allot of system improvements that Facebook will want on the First. If so, they would probably be more motivated to get HTC to update sooner. I guess we will find out.
Outside of the engineering resources it took to design and build the phone, that’s the vibe I get as well. Facebook ordered a phone, and HTC delivered. I’m wondering what benefit it would be to Facebook to ever “order” an update the Android OS then?
