The filter by date option seems to be hidden by default under the wrench icon at the far right, and then under a “Time” option, so pulling that up actually took two clicks after the search.

Here’s another screenshot. This is from a Google search results screen. It’s very similar to the recent Google+ changes, with most content aligned left and a huge area of whitespace on the right.
