You’re wrong on #2. An LP can be reliant on copyright work and still not be a copyright violation as long as it is sufficiently transformative. See Kelly v. Arriba Soft Corporation

You CAN disconnect playing a game from watching a game. One is a feedback system, the other is one way. They are completely different experiences.

Of course money is not the only reason they do LPs, however, many of them also do it to make a living. It takes time, energy and money to make a LP. The authors are not obliged to do it for free, and they should feel no guilt refusing to LP nintendo games after this.

MineCraft is a game precisely designed to be an open world, and it is a great example of a game where any video would be transformative. Certainly Notch et al would have no legal standing to take down Minecraft LP videos from YouTube.
What about other sandbox games too, like GTA. You can play the game how you like, it’s not linear, so an LP on YouTube should not be controllable by RockStar.

LP is Let’s Play, not Long Play.

Maybe one of these: HDMI to VGA
Paired with one of these: Wireless HDMI

There’s no perfect/flawless solution for a wireless extended monitor. It becomes most difficult if you want to play HD video on the second wireless desktop. Then you’re basically doing real-time transcoding which will have occasional stutter.
Going the AppleTV route means you’ll have to use a 3rd party software solution and those all do software encoding. Only apple’s built-on encoder uses Quicksync hardware encoding but it only suppports mirroring

“Better” is subjective:
1. VHS had longer recording times: Beta = 1hr, VHS = 4hrs
2. Beta has better picture quality
3. VHS was cheaper
It’s not so clear cut. What good was beta if it couldn’t fit a 2hr movie or record a 3hr sports game?

I abhor WMA. I would never store anything in that format because it’s controlled by Microsoft which has competing interests. They want to keep users in their ecosystem and they can use other assets to coerce us to that goal.
On the other hand, MP3 and M4A/AAC are much better formats simply because they are not controlled by a company that also controls just about all the desktops in the world, and wants to control all of mobile too. MP4 and M4A are controlled by a group that wants to make money off licencing (MPEG/Fraunhofer). They don’t have a reason to coerce me onto google/apple/microsoft/linux systems.

m4a is not a codec, it’s a container format standardized by the MPEG group: MPEG containers . Nothing is stopping other companies from using m4a.
The codec that Apple uses for music and audiobooks is AAC, which is also an MPEG standard.

They’re aren’t disconnecting it from reality at all. They are going to do they same thing they always have, use weapons that look identical to the real thing and use the official name of the gun. They just aren’t going to license the usage anymore.
Note the sly wordsmithing in the PR, “we aren’t going to to use licensed weapons in our games.” They will now use unlicensed weapons in their games. Same models/textures/names but they just won’t pay for the right to do it.

They’ll bring the button back, but it will just go to the metro start screen. That’s not what people want. They want a start button and the old start menu. They’re going to piss people off even more.

It’s still pretty buggy. I’ve been watching Docm77’s youtube channel, and he runs an ongoing SimCity series. A week ago, or so, he put it on hiatus because the game’s still buggy and frustrating.

My take away from your experiment is this: The internet doesn’t cause us to lose ourselves, as we can do that with or without the internet. Also, we won’t find ourselves by merely leaving the internet. It takes courage and work on a daily basis, and if we are not diligent we will slowly descend into our comfort zone.

The reason what desktop users have to use metro is that Microsoft wants to leverage the behemoth windows platform to build up the new metro platform. An alternative would have been to extend Windows Phone to tablets, which is what apple did.
