Yes, I’ve seen it and there was negligence there as well, but maybe if you live in a war torn country with a heavy military presence, you shouldn’t walk around with non-military people openly carrying AK-47s. What is a military helicopter supposed to think when they see people on the ground carrying machine guns in a hostile area? I get that the journalists were probably just trying to get a story, and the US military should have sent ground troops to investigate more before firing, but still… it was dumb. War journalists know the risks though.
Anyhow, how does the incident in Iraq make this incident in Brazil OK? I’m really not OK with either.

Yes, the US military mistakenly fired on civilian targets at war (If you’re in a war torn place with a heavy military presence, maybe don’t walk around with non-military people openly brandishing AK-47s… you’re bound to be mistaken for a terrorist or enemy). Regardless, what happened in Iraq doesn’t make what happened in Brazil OK.

Returning fire from a fixed ground position is quite a bit different than wildly spraying a machine gun at high speed from the air when the suspect doesn’t even appear to be shooting. Haha, nice try though.

Not really. Takes me 2 minutes to slap an iPhone on Craigslist and usually I can get buyers to meet me right across the street from my apartment within a day or two. Very little work. Very much worth having an unlocked / unbranded phone for the next six months to a year if you use your phone as much as I do.

Average consumers don’t give a rats ass about locked vs. unlocked phones. This is for nerds only. Can only speak for myself, but selling an iPhone on Craigslist and doing it this way is pretty damn quick and easy for me. And I don’t want to wait two months for a phone. I just want to make use of the $450 subsidy AT&T is offering me. Hell, it’s coming out of my bill whether I like it or not, so might as well use it.

Worst case scenario, you get a phone for $200 from AT&T and want to cancel a month later, you have to pay a $350 ETF. Still cheaper than paying for the phone outright. AT&T doesn’t give you a discount for not taking their subsidy, so might as well take it.

Or you could save money by buying the unlocked version. I can’t be the only person who’s done this. Buy an iPhone for $200 from AT&T, sell it unopened for $600 ($50 less than Apple sells it for), buy an unlocked HTC One for $575 (no tax and free shipping!), and you just got yourself an unlocked, unbranded One for $175, almost $50 cheaper than you would end up paying for AT&T’s crapware laden version after tax.

You don’t have to pay extra for it if you’re smart.

Pre-ordered the 32GB unlocked and have it in hand now. MAN it’s glorious to have a device this awesome that hasn’t been touched by AT&T yet is running on their LTE network. Once you see the light, you will never buy another AT&T phone again unless it’s to flip it to make use of the subsidy you’re paying. iPhones are my preferred flipping device. Buy for $200, sell for $600, by unlocked HTC One, enjoy life.
