People are wrong to say it is suicide. it is 4 years too late and BBRY are doomed, but it’s still a move BBRY had to make to make BBM useful to the non-corporate Blackberry owners they have left. It’s like a chess game you know you are losing: you still make the moves to protect your king, even though it looks futile. But it is pure defence: you aren’t bothering your opponent any more.

It’s the latter, but it is too late. It was the future once, but no longer.
also why no app for Windows Phone?

Why did you say “aluminum” if you are English? The word is “aluminium”.

why is it interesting or useful or funny that “to him, it does not”?

OK fair enough.
BBM only works as an exclusive if a majority of your friends are on BBM, therefore have Blackberries. This is no longer the case because Blackberry’s market share has fallen off a cliff. If Heins truly believed BB10 was a world-beater, and they could get back to the glory days of 2008-10 market share, they would not do this.
This move shows they don’t think that success/dominance is ever going to happen again. If they did, they would keep BBM as a USP. It is a desperate attempt to make BBM even vaguely useful for their current Blackberry user base and stop them defecting, and an admission that BB10 can never beat iOS / Android.
i.e. the precise opposite of what Heins said

It’s a statement of confidence
That is the most absurd, unconvincing, doublespeak, bare-faced, stare-you-in-the-face-and-lie lie I have heard for a long long time. What kind of idiot does he take us for? A big one. A really really big one.

My favourite part of this thread is how any negative comments have been deleted, even ones such as mine which contained no swear words/off topic etc, my comment was simply critical of Paul Miller’s year away as being a waste of time. There is not even a “comment deleted” marker so there is no way of knowing how many, or what the true overall opinion of commenters is, you know, like censorship in China and other dictatorships where the truth has been altered and therefore a lie. It would be better to have no comments at all rather than comments sections which are interfered surreptitiously with and therefore biased and therefore a lie. No information is better than lies. At least if you are censoring leave a marker of which comments are deleted and then people know their comments are deleted so they can repost it using ironic reference to the truth to get it past the Stasi, sorry moderators.
As a result I am rejecting the Verge as a brand and complaining to the relevant authorities. This whole trigger-happy mod censorship, truth-altering therefore lie-perpetuating thing needs to stop. Vote with your feet people.

a) you forgot “or something else”, b) all I said was arguing it would make sense, c) read this thread back to yourself and look how off-topic you are taking it. what is your actual point?

yes it would.

“at the core of” is not the same as being Apple’s most important product. The hardware is at least 50% of these products. iOS is just an off-shoot of OS X, and initially Apple described the iPhone as running OS X. Stop wasting my time.
