All-round nerd and tech company employee. Don't worry though, I'm not involved in PR and hate the whole astroturfing thing - all opinions are mine and mine alone.
This is what I’ve been waiting for – something with discrete graphics and a touchscreen. I’m quite sure that there isn’t anything with that combination of features on the market yet.
The price being reasonable is a positive thing too.
This seems like something that would fit far better into Lync than Skype.
In fact, there’s precedent for this – a few years ago, they produced a cool 360 degree webcam with no moving parts that could pick out who was speaking in a room and show their face called “Roundtable”. The tech was integrated into Lync, and the hardware is now made by Polycom under the rather uninspiring name “CX5000”. Where I work, we have them in every large meeting room, and they do their jobs really well.
My guess is that it would be something more like Steam – a network connection might be required to authenticate games at installation, but is not necessarily required all the time.
