Second NV + Simplenote. Used evernote and springpad for years, I didn’t miss all the features when I switched to NV, mostly because it’s so quick and I can access it anywhere.
If you need photos/sound/drawing, evernote is the most elegant solution, but between Springpad and evernote, i still think springpad is more useful. The new app is a little obnoxious with it’s ‘social’ angle, but it does everything evernote does and it’s free. The only reason I’d recommend anyone pay for evernote is if they consistently use skitch/penultimate as part of their workflow
