I know how good NEX7 is, we have agreement here. I was commenting about colour shift when using wide non-E lenses on NEX7, NEX5 doesn’t have this problem.

good luck with wide angle lenses on NEX7 ;) you can get adaptors for X-Pro1 for pretty much anything.

Read my comment again. I said it’s more expensive and I said that you have distance scale, focus point and DoF in the OVF/EVF on X-Pro1 – that’s why you don’t have on the Fuji’s X mount lenses. I know very well what hyperfocal or zone focusing is – that’s what I use mostly for street photography. It’s bigger and heavier not because it’s full frame but because it’s lens for SLR and due to the mirror the flange is much bigger than in mirrorless systems – that’s the reason why the lens is bigger because it’s further away from the sensor (look at Leica’s full frame lenses for example, they’re tiny because they’re positioned closer to the sensor because M system doesn’t have a mirror)

RAW samples from Fuji on DPreview are soft because they’re using BETA ACR. It’s nice from them to share it with us but it’s still BETA. What’s interesting is to see how noise is handled by Fuji. If you don’t need to reduce noise that much like on NEX7 for example then you’re not risking loss of the detail. When you look at other places not just DPreview you would see that softness is something what can be seen at all rather tack sharp results. There’s a long comments thread on DPreview regarding these results and quite a few comparisons using the same RAW files in different converters (SilkyPix, RPP and others). NEX7 is brilliant camera but when it comes to noise Fuji beats it.

Because MFT is saturated and Fuji doesn’t need to go there. Regarding your comment about lenses – Fuji made available at launch all 3 important focal lengths 27/50/90 with large apertures – that’s 90% of all photographic needs, all 3 are fast, sharp primes. X100/X-Pro1 is aimed at photographers interested in photography. Fuji knows it can’t compete on features like video and so on and focused on photography and IQ and they succeeded. OM-D is brilliant camera but not for everyone. If you require large DoF then MFT is way to go but if you want to achieve shallover DoF you need larger sensor. 25mm f/1.8 lens on MFT will never give you equivalent DoF like 50mm f/1.8 lens on FF or 35mm f/1.8 lens on APS-C because it’s 25mm lens.

switch to RAW – don’t look at JPEGs.

I can second this, 35mm f/1.8 was literally glued to my camera and after having X-Pro1 + 35 f/1.4 for a weekend, there’s no comparison. But I still like Nikon’s 35 f/1.8 lens, it’s probably the best you can get if you have cheaper Nikon body without AF motor.

Nikon doesn’t make/sell this lens any more. Also it’s more expensive and heavier. Regarding DoF preview markers – this is what you have in the OVF/EVF you have distance scale, focus point and DoF.

lenses – add lenses on top. I’ve had D40 then for few months D7000 – I guess D40 is similar in size to new D3200 (in my opinion good camera for the price). I have X100 but sometimes want a bit longer lens so I’ve been eyeing for a MILC for some time. Had tried NEX7, brilliant camera but controls and video record button just didn’t cut it for me. Then I tried X-Pro1 for a weekend and liked it a lot. I don’t mind any brand, just don’t want to have smaller sensor due to DoF and don’t want SLR again (if I did, I’d go for D700/5DMK2)

As I mentioned below, this is for people who want dSLR IQ in a small package not for Leica fans. It’s not rangefinder and that’s what M system is about, people who prefer to shoot with rangefinder cameras will buy one.

the price is well justified, when it comes to low-light performance it’s reaching FF territory, which new FF camera costs less or the same? None. That’s the whole point, it’s up there with FF cameras.

:) look at real life photos not at test charts – all I see is different sharpening, this is jpeg and you’re comparing jpeg engine not what camera is really capable of, if you want real example, here you go and scroll all the way down to image quality section, there’s 100% crop of real thing:

It’s for people who require dSLR IQ in small package. I’ve given away my dSLR after few weeks of shooting with X100, I just couldn’t be asked to carry it around anymore

LOL!!! this has nothing to do with Leica. Leica M system is rangefinder X-Pro1 is not. It’s more similar to Fuji’s X-Pan/TX-1/MF cameras than to Leica.

nope, none of those cameras produces better images than X-Pro1. That’s just fact. Shooting at higher ISO than 800 allows you to use higher shutter speed or smaller aperture in worse light conditions – I’d say 70% of my evening street shots are ISO1600 and above ;) It’s not about doing something wrong it’s about using capabilities of current cameras and using them in the situations we wouldn’t few years ago.

yes, there are adapters for pretty much everything ;) as far as Canon mirrorless rumours go it’s still just early rumour, what might interest you are rumours about full frame NEX – that would be very very interesting camera.
some info about EF adaptor can be found on DPreveiw forum, link: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1020&message=41507540&changemode=1

I agree, 8 is too high score. I guess the best solution solution for video is Panasonic GH2 if you consider performance/price (and even without it) and if you really need APS-C and small body it would be Sony’s NEX range. I didn’t quite understand why it’s on X100 and didn’t expect it to appear on X-Pro1 :)

actually X100’s AF improved dramatically after recent FW updates, especially 1.20 and 1.21, 1.30 seems to add only support for wide conversion lens, I haven’t noticed any other changes.
