Conversely a lot of people could work their asses off for the sake of making sure they keep their jobs. Productivity up!

Everyone is fairly short-sighted here about what HP actually does. They are huge in the enterprise space and basically dominate the server market along with IBM. As the press release states, PSG is losing money but enterprise is making money. All everyone assumes is consumer stuff, not business stuff.

It probably has a lot to do with the old wars that Apple and Android fans used to fight in regards to screen size. Jobs is very outspoken about that stuff (especially the iPad which coincidentally will have a “mini” that Jobs poo-pooed when he was alive) so it’s not groundbreaking news. It’s very typical Apple though — something isn’t cool until they do it. I own the new iPad and I love it, but I must say that the real hardcore followers that haven’t known anything else will adopt the new iPhone and proclaim it the best no matter what. It’s a great phone, but it just seems like a disingenuous approach to go from “lulz, 4” is too big" a year ago to “now, it’s perfect”.

Probably because Jobs made it clear that it was the “perfect” size not to mention his comments about the size of the iPad vs the smaller Android tabs, for example. Now suddenly after he passes we have a bigger iPhone and a smaller iPad coming. Go figure.

How about just stream movies with on-demand from Blockbuster or Netflix? You realize that’s quite a few gig just for transferring data. Also, WFH people that are online all day will need to be wary of it.

Such nonsense. It is simply data, not like taxi mileage where it costs more money per mile.

Again, HP is far more vast in terms of their market than simply Windows 8 tablets or tablets in general. They have a HUGE base of servers, services, networking, and overall enterprise level hardware that makes up a giant chunk of their operating base.

You’re stuck purely on the consumer level tablet mindset. HP does quite a lot more than that in regards to services (as mentioned here in the proposed cuts), industry servers, and networking.

Still just ridiculous that Apple is arguing a patent on a rectangle with bezel.

There’s nothing wrong with them taking the best ideas and molding it into a great OS — Apple or Google. iOS fanboys started the war of “copying” despite their latest iOS 5 stealing a ton of ideas from Google.
