Honestly, I’m bothered that people keep asking this question. We have reached a point where consumer electronics are a luxury, albeit an expensive one. They serve one purpose and one purpose only: to do what we, as users, want them to do. Not what we need them to do, nor what we require them to do, but what we want. And as time goes on, our desires, interests and priorities change. What’s impressive and looks like a huge technological breakthrough will look like a simple anecdote within 5 years.
The question at hand now isn’t ‘why,’ but instead ‘why not?’ Things couldn’t possibly stay how they are, so why not innovate, explore and develop new ideas?
