It may very well do something like that. I imagine if it’s based on pressurized gas of some sort it will have the hissing sound. :D

Well for one, the edge to edge would only apply on the horizontal, i.e. you’d still have the top and bottom areas to grip it in landscape mode. So you can still watch a video or play a game no problem, though games? Really? Last time I checked almost every game required you to, at times, obscure the screen with your fingers, yet that somehow doesn’t bother people that insist that iphone is the future of mobile gaming. But I digress…
As for portrait and your palm/fingers touching part of the screen – two things. For one, I just checked on my galaxy nexus, my palm and fingers “invade” the front area about 2-3mm deep, at most, and not over a significant area. In short, the visual obstruction is all but irrelevant – unless you have text somewhere (like a web page) that goes all the way to the edge you’re not going to obstruct any content.
As for accidentally touching, I actually know what you mean because it does happen to me on occasion even with a bezel and TBH I think it’s high time for these guys (ios, android and what have you) to tune up their touch detection algorithms to filter out these types of accidental touches. Can they reduce errors to 0? Well no, but they can definitely get it to a point where it’d be no more common than a wrong keyboard key detected on tap.
So practically, I really see no problems with this, and if you simply don’t like the look of that, well that’s obviously just a matter of taste. Me personally, I want that illusion of holding nothing but the screen in my hand – in fact, I think the galaxy nexus should’ve further reduced the bottom areas since they don’t need it for the buttons, and it’s unfortunate that there’s really no way to get rid of the top part, at least not yet.

But is “himself” without the internet really “himself”? I guess, maybe that’s what he’s trying to explore.
(And btw, just to clarify, this wasn’t some sort of call to “stop this nonsense” – I’m just trying to understand it.)
I have to say,
Religious people all over the world abstain from all sort of things to feel more spiritual.
I guess that’s ultimately my problem with Paul’s experiment. I think what Paul will really find after a year without an internet is not “himself” but just “himself without the internet”.

Hmmm, are jurors paid for accommodations and food? Is it possible they’re just “deliberating” with some beers and snacks while watching cable? :)

I’m hoping for thinner bezel too – I want edge to edge screen, damn it.

It’s no different from not driving for a while ‘cause you’ve been getting a ride, or your car’s been in the garage, or something. When you get back to it you just take the time to “remember”. People just need to be smart on the road.

Not liking this change. I would’ve preferred a flattened Aero glass, thinner and even less visible – there when you need it (for moving/resizing windows, minimizing, closing, etc.) and practically not there when not needed. This looks like the “gimped” version of Aero that engages when your graphics card can’t handle the load.

I don’t get it, why take it away? I understand that everyone should upgrade but why put that kind of a restriction at all, just to push people into an upgrade? Seems a bit heavy handed.

It’s pretty good actually. It’s probably a little bit slower but it’s only noticeable with heavy scripts on the page. I like the interface though the way tabs are done in chrome is definitely fancier. I haven’t had a chance to really put it through its paces but from my initial impressions it’s starting to become a real alternative. Though I think in the end, once chrome becomes the default browser it’ll pretty much crush any other browser in the market.
