I was gonna mention this too, I think it’s a pretty big part of the whole issue.

It’s about the bigger picture, not just this one image. 99% of the time we see photos of specific women in society (whether they are real people or fictional characters) they look a certain way, which, when that’s all you see, can make some girls who don’t look that way feel .. well it’s complicated, but things like unlikable, ugly, unimportant, depressed, etc, and can reinforce the idea that their self-worth is based pretty much solely on what they look like, which I hope we can all agree shouldn’t be true.
Obviously it doesn’t affect every single person this way, but definitely enough that it’s a pretty well-known problem. Merida went a little bit against that trend, which was a good thing, but with this redesign Disney has basically airbrushed her right back into it. It’s kind of like saying that her character wasn’t good enough before, hence the idea again that her worth is based on how she looks (“she’s better now that she has on this makeup and she looks thinner, etc”).

Your cellular carriers sound a hell of a lot better than ours in the US, but yeah, I’ve heard of the ridiculous prices in Brazil lately. Nexus 4 was (is?) like $800 there right?

It’s about the images that society holds up for girls to aspire to in the aggregate. So it’s not like Jasmine is so thin that girls want to be like Jasmine and are starving themselves to do it. It’s that Jasmine is thin, Pocahontas is thin, Belle is thin, Cinderella is thin, Ariel is thin, Tiana is thin, and like you said, fashion models are thin, celebrities are praised the most if they’re thin (and sometimes made fun of if they’re not), magazine covers are (almost) always of thin women, even all the mannequins are thin.
That’s not to say you can’t explain all of that. People tend to look better when they are thin, retailers and designers want their clothes to look the best they can for shoots, models (and some celebrities) have careers based on their figure, so yeah, it’s understandable from that angle.
The problem is when you have a normal girl who turns 10, suddenly notices that she isn’t as thin as nearly every single image of a woman that she sees, and starts worrying about it. Now instead of being a normal 10 year old girl she feels like she has to start looking and dressing a certain way to be valued, and all those images reinforce that belief. And when that becomes the norm, and when girls genuinely feel less worthy of love or attention because of it, it’s a problem.
In this case, you finally had a heroine of a big movie, a Disney movie no less, and she didn’t fit that perfect image as closely as usual, and in fact her character probably wouldn’t even care about it. That can be a powerful thing, and some people (or a lot of them) feel like this new look devalues that.

tl;dr everyone’s locked in somewhere, and being “locked in” to google’s services is worth it because it integrates with more stuff than apple or microsoft. potential for growth is greater with too, including (eventually) home game consoles
