Really? I find the OSX UI to be boring and unusable sometimes – or it may be my lack of experience with it. I hate all the grey, that with a top/bottom multi-monitor setup, the menu bar is always on the top screen, and that Expose (at least on Snow Leopard) becomes useless. The Finder is also completely nonsense, and hate that the layout of the MacBook keyboard is non-standard (@ is different position, and # is hidden – which is a pain as a front end developer).

I’m not sure if you’re talking about Bing, or just having a rant about privacy in general, because no private information is shared, only your public posts, public tweets etc are.
Also, search engines are both “subjective” and “objective” already – as part of the ranking algorithm would rely on behaviours of other people (not just your friends/family/etc).

I was going to sarcastically say that “We all know The Verge hates Microsoft”, but if that was his reason, then he’s just plain lying, as the stats can’t be the reason for omitting the favicon.
I bet that the number of people viewing the website in IE (any version that uses favicon.ico) outnumbers those who access the site via their home screen from an iOS device, because, like the favicon.ico, it’s one line in the HTML, and probably required more effort in creating the graphic than it is to convert the PNG to ICO.

I don’t think Google would have rolled out certain features, or at least as quickly, if Bing hadn’t come along. The most obvious one being the preview.

I’m a web developer, so I’ve always preferred the multi-monitor setup; check browser on one, programmer on the other. But I’d go for 2×24in instead (or 3×24 if your budget/space allows for it).

Who actually buys LG phones? They all look cheap and ugly, but I guess given their history as Lucky Goldstar, it’s not entirely surprising.

I know that it predates Motorola’s acquisition, but if Google truly wanted to use their patents solely for defensive purposes like they have said on numerous occasions, I can’t imagine they couldn’t stop this with just a simple phone call. We all know that Google wanted to do away with H264 for a while, so it’s not like they won’t gain anything out of this.
Personally, I don’t have a problem with companies playing offense with their patents, but if you’re going to publicly denounce other companies doing so, you shouldn’t do the same. I know they’re acting as separate entities, but my point is that Google is still paying the bills, and this isn’t an unstoppable train if their principle is to use their patents defensively.

After Bing came out, Google came out with:
1) Page previews
2) Infinite scrolling on images
3) LH navigation
4) Social integration
But seriously, we should all just get over it, they all copy each other, whilst refining a little bit and adding more features, forcing the other to refine and add more. This is how it works, and this is how it helps us as users.

I am curious, since I’m not familiar with how mobile plans work in the US, is it mandatory for people to get a new phone when their contract ends? In the UK and Australia, when it expires, you just pay month to month contract free until you change the phone, or your plan.

They have a monopoly on the tablet market, and unlike Windows, you can’t create applications that replicate included functionality, which is ridiculous. It’d be like Windows not allowing application to run 3rd party media players or browsers that goes MS in trouble.
