I assume you’re referring to Android and looking at a widget on a home screen from another app.

So for fun, lets review how it works in iOS in the same scenario: exit the app I’m in, swipe to the right page containing the icon, open the correct folder holding the icon, click on the icon and wait for it to load to get the weather information. Then click the home button again, and then click the home button twice, swipe to find the correct app you were in previously and click on it.

What? Android gives you more options, you can put weather widgets as a flat icon on a screen, as a widget of differing sizes on a screen, as notifications in your notification tray, or as a full sized app. iOS gives you the first option.
